I have been challenged with anxiety and depression since 1997 and tried more than 30+ meds. The only thing that touched the anxiety was Seroquel.
Does anyone know why? In theory?
I am not bipolar, just have a "free floating anxiety."
Seroquel touches it but does not finish it. I still worry about worry all day. Is there something better to hit it? Zyprexa? Lyrica? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,
A question if you dont mind: How are u so sure your not bipolar?Have you tried lithium and, even better, divalproex acid?
Depakote can be uber effective for anxiety...
I think if seroquel works, zyprexa would be a good bet as well, they are somewhat similar drugs...
I have also heard from a few psychopharmacologists that there is something special about seroquel, that it has some special mood stabilizing effects that may not be present in the other atypical antipsychotics... this could be contributing to its anxiolytic properties for you..

Thanks.Well, Seroquel does block dopamine lightly but it also does a good job at 5HT blockading, as does Remeron at high doses... a different way of fiddling with serotonin than SSRIs. Also if anything, the sheer antihistamine and sleep-inducing nature may also contribute to some anxiety quelling.

I get what you mean. It's probably not exactly anxiety but some for of agitation. Try someting with better tolerability and D2 affinity - perphenazine 4-8 MG before sleep.
Good luck!

Well my grandmother was Bipolar I and took lithium. This pdoc asked me question after question about any BPI or BPII traits in me. He said I may have just a touch of BPII, but nothing significant.
My mind does sort of cycle, if I am using the correct term. I will worry about a cough, then get so worried, that I worry about worry and forget about the cough. I get so worked up. Ever felt like that?

Michael I do. Does that mean one of the new bipolar categories. Is your thyroid okay? Just curious about that one. Love Phillipa

Michael my pdoc went so far as to give me samples and say I might only need a sixth or quarter of a patch. Then when I saw her again she said that it would be too stimulating for me. What do you think I know you're stuggling with the same decision. And you have my e-mail and I will be around tomorrow and the next day as rain is predicted and don't party. Love Jan ps I really need to discuss this and other options with you.

Hi,
I never worry about health issues, but my mind races alot... constant thoughts which are quite tangential...All my family has bipolar so the diagnosis was somewhat easy for me.. I encourage you to look into depakote, it can work wonders for calming one down... I'm not sure if u said that u've tried it... the atypicals can work too as u've found with seroquel..
I'm gonna throw an idea at u, when bipolar-orientated medications work, I believe that maybe that demonstrates that you suffer from the illness..
So that leads to make think u might gain great benefit from depakote, a classic bipolar drug...
Just a thought, godspeed!

I'm also sorry to hear about this, sounds like an extra conservative doctor though I don't know how much meds you're on and I answered the previous alcohol question so I see where this is coming from -- not to be ad hominem but you are mad at your doctor. Some disorders warrant things like Seroquel but merely because someone drinks on lorazepam, and I dont know how much you take again per day -- frankly its usually a PRN drug and not a daily drug like klonopin, this sounds a little odd, unless he thinks you show bipolar tendencies beyond drinking. And there are facts that again, are your personal business, as to whether you are or ever have been an alcoholic. However, alcohol and Seroquel aren't the best either, its not deadly usually I can say from long experience, its just more sleep inducing.
