I just started generic adderall today. 20 mg. (I am also taking 40 mg prozac and klonopin as needed.)
Was wondering if it's best to divide the dose into two throughout the day and if it usually stops working after a being on it for a while.
Also, is the brand name or extended release version any better?
Any side effects I should be aware of ?
thanks!

What does your doctor say? Does your doctor say once a day, or more often?
When I took Adderall, it was twice a day, divided dose -- once in the morning, once at about noon, when the morning dose wore off. I wouldn't expect much difference between the generic and the name brand, but that's me and I'm a little funny that way.
Good luck with it.

> Good luck with it.My nurse practitioner said once a day in the morning. But, I have read that it can fade out or only last a few hours, and from what I have read many people take it two or three times a day to space it out. I'm just trying to avoid a crash.
So far today, I've had more energy and been able to talk to people easier. I do have a headache though. Don't know if that's from the prozac or adderall since I just restarted prozac today too after several months off it. My appetite was a lot less today too, which is great after putting on 50 lbs in six months on paxil. I can tell the adderall is fading now because I'm starting to get hungry.
Does the headache go away? Why did you discontinue it? I'm really hoping this isn't one of those drugs that your body gets used to and then it stops working.
By the way, I'm taking it for social anxiety and tiredness, no energy and low motivation.
Any comments are welcome.
Also, both target and wal-mart have generic prozac and paxil on their $4 prescription list, which is right about what I can afford (I'm a student and not working this semester). It's not in all states yet, but it is in florida and indiana and several other states. Walmart's website has info on it.

> Does the headache go away? Why did you discontinue it?I don't remember getting a headache from it, so I can't answer that one. I stopped because it increased my depression. Neither Dexedrine nor Ritalin increased depression for me, though, so it wasn't a big deal to switch. Dexedrine was helpful, although not the best for me. Ritalin was the best for me, although it did cause headaches. (It also stimulated my appetite, which freaked me out. That seemed to have gone away, though, when I restarted it recently. And the headaches didn't come back.)
As for why I'm not taking stimulants regularly now, I'm trying to get pregnant, and they're not good for that. Right now, when we're sure I'm not pregnant, I take them to try to help me recover from some of the problems the hormones cause, and stop them before another attempt.
Hope that helps.
