I know there are old threads about cortisol everywhere, but couldn't really figure out if anyone has been successful in lowering their cortisol and how they did it? If anyone can answer I would love to hear it..

I was just researching the exact same thing. I have very severe depression/fear/anxiety on awakening and am wondering if is due to high cortisol levels. Here is one thread I have found but I need it explained more! One person was taking Remeron for lowering cortisol.

Hopefully someone can help explain this thread.

Have you ever had your cortisol levels tested? I just had a blood test this morning, but I beleive that the urine and saliva tests are better indicators , from what I heard.. but I still anxiously await what my test turns out. The next step is , if it is high/out of whack, what the h*ll do you do about it : )
One thing you might find interesting is that I have taken 3-4 mmg of dexamethasone, which is actually a really strong gluccocorticoid ( basically the same thing as cortisol) , and it actually helped. Seems weird that taking a mega dose of what is causing you the problem actually helps, but apparently having all of that in your body tells your adrenal glands to stop making your own cortisol and the dexamethasone actually does not go to your brain like the cortisol your body madkes.. thus you shut off or slow down the cortisol actually getting to your brain.. weird. Unfortunately taking Dexamethasone for more than a few days is REALLY bad for you , so thats not an option to take long term. But I will tell you my anxiety level dropped so much and I had a period of feeling "normal" while I was taking it .. amazing : )
Maybe someone around here has some answers..

Simple explanation stress leads to depression which leads to depletion of cortisol. And yes a test from a doc is necessary to see if you have it. Love Phillipa
