Self-Pay?

I've never self-payed, but I think I'm having insurance "issues" (I think this new policy has very limited mental health stuff...but good drug coverage).

How much would a self-pay session be? Do shrinks still treat self-pays as well as insurance-paid clients?

I don't qualify for any assistance programs...I just have insurance with stripped-down mental health coverage (although the RX coverage is still pretty good).

So...I can go to a shrink for like 3 sessions (if that) and then have to pay for the rest...go to a therapist for very few sessions (and then have to self-pay), or choose my own doc and self-pay the whole way through, although meds would be covered.

Hi,
Some options-see if your local hospital offers outpatient mental health care-it may be available free or at a very low cost, but there is usually a waiting list. Or see a social worker instead of a full fledged doc-I think sessions with a social worker cost about $75 per hour around here, and they take self-pays usually-its money.
