I don't know, I always thought that I'd regain the ability to cry after being off SSRI's for a while, but it just isn't returning. I am more emotional then most people, and if anything I consider it a release and it's frustrating when you feel it but it just can't be let out. The bigger problem is that, I wonder what the drug has changed in me to cause this sudden change.

It might be a lag in chemistry in your brain -- it isn't necessarily permanent. A lot of antidepressants will block this. Psychiatric conditions alone may also do as well.I consider an occasional cry session a let-out, sometimes I force myself with songs I consider sad. But equally reinforcing is a happy let-out, listening to happy songs and attempting to cheer yourself up. I know, that can be more challenging, but maybe it would be more rewarding too. Either has some benefit.
best wishes

I feel the same way. After being off Prozac for one year still do not have an easier ability to cry as I used to. Makes you wonder just what Prozac does to you long term doesn't it.

There are reports of genital anesthesia persisting for years after discontinuation of SSRI medication. Perhaps the inability to cry is like a persistant anesthesia to the emotions.
It can come back (ability to cry) as it has with me.

Prozac makes me mad, instead of getting sad i just furious.
I have had emotional breakdowns in the past that where violent. Around 17... Yelling, dispairing, craziness today im not like that anymore. I was going through a big change, but if it wasnt for prozac right now i would be feeling so in the depths of dispair.
Anyways that didnt make any sense.
Have you tried a stimulant to express your emotions?

stimulants definitelyt help, but it's kinda sh*tty to rely on an amphetamine just to bring out your emotions, i really dont' tolerate them well anyway

The fact that you can't cry is so sad. I hope it makes you want to cry :)

Rent the movie "ordinary people". Its funny cause I was on celexa for a few years and was tearless for a long time afterwards. I saw that movie on TV, and it was the first time I had cried in YEARS. Anyhow, its a very good movie for other reasons too.
