I'm on day 3 of Topamax and am just at 25 mg. Already I have blurry vision. Last time I tried this drug several years ago the same side effect hit in 3 days. At that time, I chose to go off the drug because it was when the warnings from the FDA and others were just released regarding acute myopia and secondary angle closure glaucoma -- basically severe nearsightedness and vision loss that cannot be reversed. And symptoms typically occurred within the first month of therapy.
I plan to report my blurry vision to my PDoc on Monday but am inclined to stop taking the Topamax although I've read that this drug could really help me for depression and borderline personality disorder.
Thus my questions -- has anyone else on this board experienced blurry vision with Topamax and stuck with it? Did your doctor carefully monitor you? Did you consult/work with an eye doctor too?
Most importantly, did the blurry vision go away over time?
Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this and giving me such helpful answers!!

I'm going to goggle it and see what it says. Your eyes are not something to fool around with. Love Phillipa

Crazy Meds .org has a pretty good synopsis on the med. But he does say contact you doc immediately with vision problems . Hope that helps. Love Phillipa

I had the same problem with Topamax as well as Wellbutrin. It was more of an inability to focus on the written word. Drove me batty!!! I love to read, and it finally just became something that I couldn't tolerate any longer. I was on Topamax for about 3 months, and I loved everything about it....except the darn eye problems. It was a symptom that did not go away, unlike some other start-up symptoms that I had. Same thing with the Wellbutrin. Actually hated that med, but was on it long enough to realize that the eye-focusing problem was not going away either. And I need my eyes!! A trememdous part of my quality of life comes from reading books.
I dumped the Wellbutrin for an entirely different reason....it made my anxiety keep building, and that's not a good thing! But my eyes cleared up almost immediately after not taking my next dose. And I reluctantly stopped the Topamax, which I thought was doing wonders for me, because I really needed the full use of my eyes.
That was just my experience. Maybe if we wait long enough, the eye-focusing problem will disappear....but I really don't think so. And I don't have a clue if it was doing permanent damage. My eyes are fine now, although they get blurry after a lot of reading in a single day....however, I'm also 41 years old, so this could be occurring all on its own. Ugh! Lol.
Take care!
Sandy

A warning did come out a while ago about Topomax and sight problems. It's serious. Call your doctor.
Good luck.
