If it helped you lose weight before, it will probably do so again. CAVEAT ... unless you are on other meds that cause weight gain.

Actually, Topomax is being used to counter the weight gain from other meds. My own soon-to-be-ex-pdoc said that she'd prescribe it for me if I went on one of the drugs that I won't go on because of weight gain...

Hey Racer!

Yes,I know it's used for that purpose. But I don't think anything can counteract the weight gain from say, Zyprexa.

Just my 2 cents. (and they are Canadian cents, so they are worth less than yours!)

Several people have had success using amantadine.

No promises.

An anti-viral? To do what? Help with weight loss?
*confused*

Amantadine has been reported to prevent the weight gain associated with Zyprexa (olanzapine) treatment. You can find several abstracts regarding this on Medline. Amantadine is both an antiviral and an anti-Parkinsonion drug. It has NMDA antagonist properties and perhaps some poorly understood pro-dopaminergic properties. I know someone who successfully prevented their invariable weight-gain associated with Zyprexa treatment by using amantadine.
