Recommended, an inconvenient necessity, its hard to say, but 8mg and the equivalent of Valium. I wouldn't ever recommend it for the average anxiety disorder and its a contentious part of treatment yet the evidence has shown that a higher dose has produced better results in terms of multiple tiers of complex problems.
It is not without its caveats, including memory issues and fogging (not that they weren't there before to some degree) and the necessity to be vigilant in areas requiring concentration.

I was on 6mg of Klonopin. Right now im 6mg of Xanax. Panic attack city.
Klonopin makes me depressed i mean like Thorazined out. I had no emotion and it made me mean.... 1 mg i would have a mad additude. It is a benzo of choice among doctors. Xanax was the last benzo option, my doctor did not want to prescribe Valium because he is in his 70's and he has said he's seen through the past decades people becoming addicted to it.
Xanax is little addicting to.
Have you asked about Tranxene?

Be careful though. My pdoc told me to take it 4 times a day. After a couple weeks I was having tremors and sweating and anxiety between doses. I thought I needed more and my pdoc said no, I was going through withdrawal between doses! That my body had become "dependant" very quickly and then told me to taper off!
I don't see her anymore. But I also don't take Klonopin 4 times a day. Just when I need it.

I withdrew from it cold turkey not knowing at the time what I know about benzodiazepines and was not given it back immediately at the same dose by the rather nasty psychiatrist at my university clinic when I began to have muscle spasms on my scalp shortly thereafter. It has to be taken up to 3x a day. I still have occasional scalp spasms which are minorly controlled by Robaxin and could be controlled better by Soma but I am not allowed to combine Robaxin's better chemical cousin with my current medication regime.
Xanax long term is highly more "addictive", and I use the word sparingly, because the continued use of benzodiazepines for medically necessary conditions where things may go awry is "habituation."Addiction is the use of such agents for medically unnecessary purposes (i.e. forged prescriptions, etc.) However addiction and habituation can occur at the same time if one is predisposed to addiction to substances, e.g. illicit (I'm talking hardcore) substances and alcohol.
Valium is much safer longterm as its metabolic (3 main) half lives can far exceed 24 hours unlike Xanax and I'm rather surprised at the view -- but it is your doctor and his views so I won't question that. It had a bad rap as "mother's little helper" but in fact it is really no different than Klonopin in anxiolytic management, and may offer a different profile for some than clonazepam, which typically has an actual half life average of only 16 hours.-tidings

That's right, Klonopin is one of the safest drugs ever put on the market. I have been on it for nine years, and am actually taking less now than I was nine years ago.
You hear all these "precautions" about Klonopin, but those are primarily for people who use the drug for the WRONG reasons ... recreational use.
For people who take the drug as prescribed by the MD and are monitored on it, it's a great, great, great drug that gets a bad wrap.

While a one-off experience like this may not cause damage, caution should also be noted with medium high to extreme doses, especially ongoing, of any benzodiazepine.
Benzodiazepines are, when taken as directed, probably the safest psychiatric medications in predominant use. Withdrawing from them when no longer medically necessary requires concerted effort at higher doses but it is still possible when followed as directed.
However, high doses mixed with alcohol, especially alcohol taken immediately after ingestion, can cause respiratory depression. This is another word for saying, collapse of lungs, as benzodiazepines relax large portions of muscle tissue in the body, depending on the dose and particular variant. So, no, do NOT try this at home, please, even if one has "survived" this -- and yes, I have too "survived" certain combinations, but I'm simply giving a caveat for those unsure of their benzodiazepine regime who take alcohol with it early on.

Did you take for siezures? (I doubt it)
Thanks for sharing.

I was taking it for anxiety at the time but I decided to use it somewhat recreationally at extra high doses in social occasions. That was the most I ever took and I was also drinking white wine that night as well. *I would discourage anyone from taking anywhere near the does I took btw* Anyway Took a while to kick in but once it did it was very like being drunk! suffered severe memory loss, loss of balance, mega relaxed feeling but far too sedated to have appreciated anything or take part in any meaningful conversation. Like being tuned to the moon I suppose! Conked out like a light that night.

The best use in social situations is really something short acting like 1/2 to 1mg Xanax -- it wears off after 4 hours and drinking more isn't as a felt need.

... as I would also (though I take relatively high dose benzodiazepines)

Like being tuned to the moon I suppose!Basically turning 16mg of Klonopin + alcohol, with any guess on someone's body, into up to 32mg equivalent.
Conked out like a light that night.

Well, like other benzodiazapines, it IS known to be highly addictive for a number of people, and for them, it can therefore become less than safe. I think a person can become addicted or develope tolerance without ever having any recreational intentions at all. There are also some dangers to navigate when tapering down or experiencing withdrawal due to seizure potential and other effects. Pros and cons. But I agree, overall a very, very, very helpful drug for many.
Respectfully,
Laima
