Both are a combo of serotonin and norepineprine. I think effexor is supposed to be stronger. I did take cymbalta . Did nothing for me positive. Love Phillipa

Thanks Phillipa....i just recently stopped taking cymbalta which had helped me for a about a year but kind of pooped out. was switched to lexapro and doesn't seem to be helping much for anxiety, racing thoughts, etc. I did try effexor some time back but didn't really give it a fair chance. just looking to hear what some of you might think. I also posted the symbyax thread regarding treatment resistant depression. thanks Phillipa

Have you tried lamictal for tx resistant depression? l00-200mg is supposed to be optimal. I had just gotten to 50mg and got some wierd side effects what's new? But the doc will reasess me on Tuesday and maybe I can start it again. It's wt neutral . And headaches are a side effect didn't get them just a tiny one. I really would like to try it again. Love Phillipa ps I hope the effexor works for you. I didn't have good results with lexapro either. My head felt like it would explode wanted to cry and couldn't and the twitching of my legs was horrible plus it made me more anxious. I hope you find the med for you.

I personally love Effexor XR...150 mg., despite my little problem with the female sexual issue, which I have posted in another thread.
I had tried Paxil, Wellbutrin and Cymbalta...and they just did not agree with me...I never made it past the first month.
Effexor, from the very beginning worked like a charm...It lifted me out of a very dark hole, and enhanced my life in many ways....It helped with social anxiety, fear in general..and major depression. It gave me my life back.
Good luck....
Faith~

I used Effexor some years ago, and it worked well initially but in time caused tension and anxiety, particularly at the high dose end. Now on Cymbalta 60 mg I've noticed no tension or anxiety and seems to be working well for depression. I would rate it at least as good as Effexor, especially if you need to go up to higher doses of Effexor for an adequate effect on depression.
