Serdolect launched in Europe

Looks like they've started the launch of Serdolect in Europe now. I've been following this med for awhile. What interests me is that it blocks D2 receptors, but not in the striatum. Maybe a better atypical for social anxiety??? The reason... I read a study on pubmed that found social phobics had low D2 receptor binding potential in the striatum. Perhaps that's why other atypicals have not helped or made my social anxiety worse in the past? Anyways, here's a quote from an information site for sertindole:

"Sertindole promises a restricted receptor and brain site activity. Its activity appears to be specific to D2, 5-HT2 and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors and largely confined to the limbic dopamine system of the brain (without inhibiting activity in the nigrostriatal dopamine system), at least in animal in vivo and in vitro studies.

Sertindole is reported to have an anxiolytic property, to be not sedating and not to impair cognitive functions."

Here's that site: http://www.priory.com/focus5.htm

Anyone else interested in Serdolect? Perhaps there will be a European pharmacy carrying it that ships to the US soon.

Actually this has been a drug that I've been interested in for a while.

I think I first heard about it from one of your posts.
None sedating anti-anxiety sounds good to me!

Unfortunatly I imagine it will be quite expensive considering its still on patent.....

Yeah, hopefully not too expensive. I wonder when it will make it to the UK and if at all to the US.

I might be wrong but...wasn't this already launched? I think it was launched, then withdrawn from the Euro market b/c of cardiovascular "issues" (again, maybe I'm thinking of another drug).

Yeah, you're right. It was withdrawn in 1998 I think? And then resubmitted to the European Union or something in 2003. In a number of patients, there was reports of it prolonging the Qt interval.

Of course Mellaril (thioridiazine) is still out there being prescribed (now with a black box warning about Torsade de Pointes) with potential QTc interval prolongation.

This is the end of the thread.
