God and psychiatric illness...

Posted by TylerJ on April 7, 2006, at 12:07:38

This will probably get moved to alternative.
My question is how many people here believe in God, and why or why not?

I do and have so for 23 plus years. My family and I are Christians. And for me anyway, I think I would of thrown in the towel many years ago had it not been for my faith.

Please no arguments, preaching, or saying this or that religion is wrong. Let's accept eachother as we are.

Tyler

How about Faith? Redirected

Hello,
I've redirected this to the Faith board. Here is a link: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faith/20051105/msgs/630170.html

I'm glad your faith has been such a source of strength to you, Tyler.

Take care,

Hey, gg.

Could I suggest that Tyler's post be re-re-directed to Social? Or maybe, Tyler, you could just post the question at Social yourself?

When Bob set up the Faith board, he explicitly said it was NOT for atheists to discuss their atheism. “Agnosticism and atheism are considered not to be supportive...” I cannot get my mind around Bob's thinking in this area, but the rules that are in place severely restrict the kinds of responses that can be made to Tyler's question. Some might even think replying to it in the negative would not be civil; the archive debates on this topic suggest that people would draw that conclusion.

More importantly, since atheists don't hang out at Faith, as a *poll*, Tyler's post will not get an accurate sampling of the sort of information about Babblers he was asking for if it is conducted at Faith.

Thanks for hearing me out. :-)

hmm.

i wonder if people who don't support politicians should be asked to similarly refrain from posting on politics...

actually... i never read the header... and i posted a bit on faith.

mostly arguments for the existence of god (and why they didn't work)

when i got to the arguments against the existence of god i think i realised i wasn't really supposed to be posting to faith (being sceptical rather than supportive and all)

but then....

i'm like that everywhere.

scepticism can support other people in their scepticism.

or something

who the f*ck knows sorry

Oops, I forgot about that distinction. Thanks.

I'll move the posts from the Faith board to the thread on Social, too. Looks like an interesting topic. :)
