Wellbutrin effective for GAD anxiety disorder

This might seem counterintuitive at first because Wellbutrin is known to produce anxiety early in treatment. Then again, so can Lexapro. Perhaps this startup side effect of anxiety is best treated temporarily using anxiolytics until the therapeutic response appears.

Yeah, that was interesting. Especially how it said that the effect surpassed that of lexapro.

No pain, no gain I guess. If you can make it through the start up side effects........

Thanks for asking.

:-)

The addition of Wellbutrin is showing some subtle signs of working. I have been on it for 3 weeks; 1 week at 150mg and 2 weeks at 300mg. My doctor likes combining Wellbutrin with Lamictal. It will be difficult to tease out exactly which drugs are necessary and which can be discarded. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy my current cocktail.

Currently:

nortriptyline 100mg
Wellbutrin XL 300mg
Lamictal 100mg
Keppra 1000mg
Abilify 10mg

So now we have the usually stimulating Wellbutrin being good for anxiety and the often-depressing Klonopin being useful for depression. I think we're back to prescribing of psychoactive meds being as scientific as an Easter egg hunt...

Very interesting SLS, but I can't say that from my experience Wellbutrin was anxiolytic at start because reducing depression very often alievate some level of anxiety. But after a few months it tend to augment my anxiety and bring me to the point of crisis. I had tried it 2 times and it gave me this result 2 times. To give you an idea on which kind of anxiety level we are talking about here, I lost my job the 2 times.

This said, I loved Wellbutrin while is was good. Btw SLS, have you ever exercise/body building/run ? While on Wellbutrin I've found that physical activities gave me some incredible "feel good" buzz.. So much in fact that I started to go to the gym 4 days a week and I usually hate sport/excercise! (and I wasn't hypomaniac neither) .. and regarding sexual life it's just fantastic :)

Hi Marty.

I'm getting closer and closer to dragging my butt back into the gym to do some resistence training. I'm not much into running.

Something to look forward to.

Something else to look forward to!

Depression has really sapped me of libido.

Thanks.

The study could be completely accurate, but I do wonder with this study. I mean the one reason that Wellbutrin isn't prescribed more often is that is has been traditionally seen as weak for anxiety.

I suppose that if this notion could be tackled then the drug might perform better.

Who funded the study ?

I recall they did a study finding Wellbutrin (bupropion) was effective for social phobia. I suspect dopaminergic effects in that case - the GAD thing baffles me.

God, it's like a chemical version of "battleship" sometimes.
"E4!"
"Hit!"
"Hooray! If only I knew where to go from here!"
