My young (and cute ;) Pdoc seems to be desperate. She doesn't know where to go from where I am; Nardil, Lamictal, Risperdal, Lyrica, Buspar.I'm thinking to propose here to try Testosterone patch and T3/T4 augmentation. I have a low borderline testosterone level and my thyroid levels doesn't make sens (Low T3 and Low T4).
Could I be a good candidate ?
What is the effect of both augmentation ?
Any experience or knowledge about them ?
Thanks for your constant help and support.

Hi M :)
I'm not sure that it would be ethical for your pdoc to prescribe testosterone. Testosterone treatment needs to be initiated and supervised by a specialist in endocrinology/andrology.
Testosterone is not free of side effects. Testicular atrophy (profound shrinkadge of the testes) is one potential side effect.
Kind regards
Ed

Hi Ed --You are right, it wouldn't be ethical. But I know it sometimes happens and maybe the PDoc is working with an endocrinologist in those cases (for initial examination, follow ups of side effects etc).
Having a low (borderline) testosterone level and huge/complete sexual side effects with AD/AP it think it could be worth trying to see the psychological effects. As a Social Phobic who has instinctual fear like I was inferior and so psychologically and physically very submissive, I think it could be interesting to see the effect of testoterone; Aside from being more agressive, would it give me more confidence? more drive? .. I dont think in any miracle. Clinical trial of testosterone on phobic social would have detect a miracle or just potential, which isn't the case. But even, I'm curious enough to try it. The less it could do is helping at the sexual level, which would be MUCH appreciated. Ms. Marty would be appreciative as well ;)

I am currently taking Depo-Testosterone, Synthroid, and Cortef. These three drugs made my depression go away. I went off of my antidepressant and have stayed off of it. I had been depressed or almost depressed for about 10 years (probably due to these deficiencies). I have an endocrinologist managing these medications.
I have, however, a lot of other problems besides depression. In fact depression was pretty far down the list of things that were bothering me. I have a lot of physical symptoms, too. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2003 and had a craniotomy. As always, your mileage may vary.

Sorry to hear that you're ill. Is there any chance of recovery ?Has your depression caused by brain domage cause by the brain tumor ? Do you see any link between your lack of testosterone and you tumor ?

Marty,
I had problem with my pituitary two years ago. I felt sluggish but otherwise fine. A thorough blood workup showed a slight testosterone deficiency (190 ng/dL.) I opted to try treatment and see whether it made me feel better or worse. My doc described the gels, patch, buccal etc. "Just give me the shot in my *ss" I said. I walked out of office with a large (400mg) shot of test ethanoate.
An hour later I was walking downtown and thought "why am I bouncing on my feet and full of beans?" A young woman walked by, smiled and held my gaze and I thought "ow -I know what that smile means." I got to work and was in great form in a meeting. I realized pretty quickly that addressing this deficiency seemed to make a real difference.
So here's what I have found:
I feel smarter, more energetic, more optimistic with test supplementation. I have not seen "roid rage" My body has more muscle, less fat. Side effects: a slight facial ruddiness, mild back acne, much greater sexual interest, bigger appetite. The biggest frustrations are actually practically how to take it. Shots every two weeks ar ean interupption. The Testim gel smells nasty. The patch seemes less effective and falls off if you sweat. The buccal gum that sits under your lip sounds gross. I end up with a mix of shots and testim gel,All in, no regrets whatsoever - I feel ten years younger.
I suspect that some of teh medical information I read might be a little slanted, or at the elast, underappreciative of teh positive effects of test supplementation.Just one guys experience.

The tumor was in a critical part of my brain near the blood supply to the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus secretes hormones that cause the pituitary to secrete other hormones which activate the body's glands (testes, thyroid, adrenals, etc.) So yes the tumor directly caused the hormone deficiencies.
My advice is that it is worth looking into. Get an appointment with an endocrinologist to discuss this. It can be difficult finding the right treatment.

Hi M
So can you get a referral to an endocrinologist?
