My p-doc just gave me 150mg of Wellbutrin to take because of my lack of concentration. I'm also taking 60mg Celexa and 0.75mg Risperdal. He plans on lowering the Celexa soon.
It just seems like a lot of meds. Does anyone have experience taking this combination of drugs?

Is there any way these three drugs would interact in such a way as to increase my chances of having a seizure? I'm afraid of have a seizure. I know Wellbutrin can cause seizures in some people. How would I know whether or not I was having a seizure? What types of seizures are likely? What if I get absent seizures and I don't know it? What should I do if I have a seizure?

I just read in a thread above that abnormal eating lowers the threshold for seizures.
I've recently started eating about 700-1000 calories a day to try to lose some weight. I usually skip breakfast, eat a late lunch at around 3pm and a light dinner at around 8pm. I'm pretty sure I'm not getting enough nutrients.
Will this increase my chances of having a seizure? I haven't told my p-doc that I'm restricting calories.

If alone you might not know you had a seizure. If it is grandmal seizure you would thrash about and maybe bite your tongue. And a lot of people are incontinent during a seizure. Sometimes a doctor will say it is a pseudoseizure if you do not lose continence. And during a real swizure you will not rmember a thing. And most are very tired after a seizure. Post dromol I think is what it's called. Fondly, Phillipa

well from what i know and i have an ED, you have a chance of a seizure , if you just started to diet i do not "think: you have to worry, but if you have an ED then call your DR and tell him, it is always best to be honest.

Thanks for alleviating some of my anxiety. :-)
I don't have an eating disorder, even though I sometimes have disordered eating. I make myself throw up once in a while, but I don't think that qualifies.
I took my first does of the Wellbutrin today and nothing bad has happened (even though I'm pretty sure I forgot to take my Celexa and Risperdal last night).
I was a little bit anxious at the dentists today, not sure if Wellbutrin had anything to do with it, probably not.

Hi Deneb,
I'm not absolutely certain, but I think that the incidence of seizures on Wellbutrin is pretty low. I believe it occurred during the clinical trials in people who had eating disorders and engaged in unhealthy behaviors like purging and taking too many laxatives. I'm not sure what caused the seizures in that group, but I think it might have something to do with the electrolyte imbalances that can result from vomiting and laxative abuse.
When I took Wellbutrin, the sustained release form of the drug was not yet available. I believe that the incidence of seizures is MUCH lower when using the sustained release version. When I took the immediate release form, I was instructed to start at a very low dose and increase the dose very gradually in order in minimize adverse effects. I believe that the incidence of seizures might be increased if Wellbutrin is taken with other drugs that cause a lower seizure threshold. I don't know whether the other two meds you're taking, Risperdal and Celexa, lower the seizure threshold. I don't think they do, but you should probably check with your doctor to be sure.

Yes, Deneb, that does qualify as an eating disorder. It may not be frequent enough to qualify as Bulimia Nervosa, but it does qualify as Eating Disorder -- Not Otherwise Specified. You already know this, but you've got to stop this behavior. Period. No qualifiers to it. Stop doing this, because it will get out of hand.I hope things work out for you.

Once in a while when I feel like I've eaten too much or too much of the wrong foods, I make myself throw up several times. I stick my fingers down my throat and make myself throw up.

My pdoc said it was fine to take all three. I'm on my second day of the generic Wellubrin and nothing bad has happened. I think I'm starting to become more productive already, although that might have something to do with the fact that I can't procrastinate on the computer at home anymore (since my computer is broken).

Really? I had no idea there are eating disorders NOS.

I haven't done it in several months already. I was really tempted to a few days ago since I ate too much on my diet, but I stopped myself somehow.
> I hope things work out for you.
Thanks for the concern. Pdoc1 used to tell me that throwing up would actually make me gain weight over time.
I also make sure to brush my teeth really well afterwards cuz I don't want the acid to errode my teeth, although usually the food hadn't had a chance to be broken down much when I throw it up.

You are not wrong, Missy. You are very much not wrong.
Deneb, listen to your elders. We know whereof we speak. What's more, we can either of us tell you that having an eating disorder is not a lot of fun -- do you really want to suffer MORE? I thought the idea was for you to reduce your suffering?
Talk to your doctor. Talk to your therapist. Get help. And get the [hot location] over this 'throwing up when I think I've eaten too much' business. Yes, it will often lead to weight gain. Many bulimics are overweight. If you're trying to lose weight, throwing up ain't the way to go. Neither is self-starvation.
And Deneb? Our little star in the nighttime? Please note that you're getting some pretty helpful and supportive responses here, aren't you?

Hi Deneb,
I'm glad to hear that you notice an increase in productivity. It's possible that Wellbutrin is helping already. It looks as if your doctor knows how to help you.My computer has also been ailing, so I haven't been around here much lately either.
