Anyone else have trouble falling asleep and then wake up 4-5 times a night and going back to sleep after 30-45 minutes? Little REM sleep and it takes at least an hour to get out of bed after waking up. I'm spending half my day in bed and would like to be more productive.

Davide,
Lamictal causes me no sleeping probs, but I'm only on 75mg. When I was on a higher dose I used to have wierd scary dreams though.. night terrors, where I was half awake, half asleep. I used to shout at myself in the dream until i managed to waken myself. really wierd phenomenon. I think some part of my brain was activated, but not enough to be fully awake.

I'm on 150 mg of Lamictal. I am certainly having the nightmares and hallucinations plus jumping muscle contractions as I had with Cymbalta, that's another nightmare. The doctor also added Trileptal 150 mg to be taken 1 hr before bed which seems to help a little with getting REM sleep but still have the predictable wake up problem. I'm titrating back on the Lamictal to see what happens. I'm spending half my day in bed. Something in my brew is wrong.

Hi, i find that lamictal and trileptal together cause me to get sleepy, unless something is really on my mind or im really nervous about something. but i take 300mg of lamictal and 150mg of trileptal before bed and usually am ok, ( i do have the nightmares sometimes though)....

Maybe that explains why I was getting nightmares. I took trileptal l50mg at bedtime and recently stopped no more nightmares. Fondly, Phillipa

I was briefly on Lamictal, but it didn't help, so I stopped (I was augmenting my AD's for treatment resistant depression). I don't remember any sleep probs on it, but, it occurs to me that I was taking 10mg of Ambien at the time. My pdoc has had me taking ambien every night for probably 1 yr b/c she doesn't want poor sleep to interfere with me getting well. Would something like that be an option for you?
Best,
EE
