Hi guys my blood work is in and my Western Blot is positive for lymes disease again. What is the best antibiotic for this? And if you're anxious and depressed and it's from lymes is there any med that works? Fondly, Phillipa

Hi. Doxycycline, amoxicillin, and erythromycin are used to treat Lyme disease. What were you given the first time? I have no personal experience with this disease, but I have a friend who is being treated by a Lyme specialist. The doctor has given Zoloft to patients, but my friend doesn't feel depressed enough to need it. Good luck w/ your treatment.

I was first given doxycycline for too little time. They claim there is no lymes's disease in NC only rocky mountain spotted fever. Also had Rocephin IV and biaxin XL for months off and on for two years. I think this explains all my tiredness aches and pains and anxiety depression and apathy. Fondly, Phillipa

Yes jan, no wonder you have been feeling so crummy;physically and mentally.
They thought I had lymes too and my doctor told me it can cause anxiety/depression along with the body aches and fevers' that I have.

Hi Phillipa,
Lymes can definitely lead to anxiety, depression and even symptoms of bipolar:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=8335653&query_hl=1So, this definitely is a possible explanation for what you've been going through. It looks, from the abstract, that antibiotic treatment alone could resolve the psychiatric symptoms associated with Lymes.
Good luck,

Cache-monkey thanks so much for the Thread. I read a book on lymes and wondered why I wasn't treated with penicillin IV. That seems to be the drug of choice for chronic lymes's disease. That sure would explain the sudden appearance of severe anciety/depression unresponsive to med. Thanks again for the link. Fondly, Phillipa

No problem, Phillipa. I hope that you get a good course of antibiotics this time around. Please keep us posted on that... Good luck!
