I don't mean just vivid dreams. I'm talking a true disorder like "restless leg syndrome" or constant twitching or "REM sleep behavior disorder", which is physically acting out your dreams while you sleep.
This never happened before, but since taking the new nardil I'be been twitching and acting out my dreams. anyone else notice anything?

Yes, I got that behavior, worsening the higher I took the dose.
Man, life on 120mg/day Parnate just isn't as good as Nardil (though still good for SP and better than any other AD by far taht I've ever tried); I've barely made it to the gym at all. I hope I can find something to augment it with ...
And it's been three weeks off the Nardil and my sexual functioning is still screwed up (on Parnate normally all I would have to do is take Cialis and I'd have great sex; now I still feel "anesthetized"...)Anyone have experience with Nardil's sex effects taking a long time to go away? I will shoot myself in the foot if I find that ALL of the sexual side effects are due to buprenorphine and not Nardil; I will then promptly taper off that stuff and go back on Nardil.

I had that happen, too. I would get myonclonic jerks, and I almost puched my dear husband in my sleep once during a dream. I'm so not a violent person. It was weird.

I'm starting to think nardil is the drug of choice here. Are there really that many treatment resistant people? That said it seems to me that pdocs would realize this. Or do they just like to keep people coming back to them often saying their meds don't work? Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
I'm not treatment resistant. I have atypical depression, and given the efficacy of MAOI's for this type of disorder, I decided to go straight from SSRI's (which never helped enough) to Nardil. I have never tried SNRI's or tri-cyclics.gg

Yeah, MAOI's have been considered "the gold standard" for atypical depression, but folks shy away from them, as you know, due to the SE's and the diet. I have not found either to be intolerable.
I initially got them from my GP, who is a bit of a pushover with me. When I realized I needed to think about raising the dose, I called over 15 pdocs to find someone on my plan who was taking new patients. I figured if I could find someone taking new patients, then I'd ask if they'd be willing to prescribe an MAOI without putting me through all the SSRI's again or trying other classes.
I got very lucky in that I got tired of calling, and I called someone back who was out of network but was taking new patients. She has experience with MAOI's and she's been (mostly) great.
I don't recommend that people take the route that I did. I knew what I was asking for and all the precautions more than my GP did. He never said a word about food or drug interactions. You do have to be careful.

That's what I'm afraid of. But guess what Scott knows a friend in Charlotte where we're moving and he's E-mailing her about her pdoc and if taking new pts or a referral if not. And you know Scott knows the best! Fondly, Phillipa

Good luck with that. I know it's difficult to find someone at all at times, let alone someone good.
And Scott's a peach.

Sorry to nag, but I know there are more of us out there than those that replied! Sleep disorders - spasms, jerks, rem sleep behavior disorder (vivid dreams, often fighting or being chased, which you PHYSICALLY act out), restless leg syndrome, periodic leg movement: HAVE ANY OF YOU EXPERIENCED THIS, IS IT GETTING WORSE, WAS THERE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEW AND OLD NARDIL, DID YOU HAVE THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE?
Please reply. Thanks

Hey,
I've been on Nardil for a little over a week. The only side effect I've had has been occasional dizziness when I wake up (postural hypotension) and a harder time falling asleep. I'm also getting a little tired in the afternoon but a cup of coffee does the trick. I'm sure there are others having side effects similar to yours, I'm just not one of them. Sorry!

I have been on Nardil for 2 years.
I have inmsomia problems when I reach 60mg, but I can handle it with Seroquel.
I have left Nardil 3 or 4 times but only for 2 or 3 weeks. I those days I suffered vivid dreams, because I stop taking it abruptly.
Sometimes I kicked or punched the furniture around my bed. That was painfull. This sindrome
disappeared after 4 or 5 days.

Hi
I take the UK version so dont know how it compares to yours. I've been on it 2 years.
Anyway, I have experienced a few things in my sleep with Nardil.
Firstly I snore. I've never been aware, or even told that I do before Nardil but since have experienced it continuously. It's worst at start of night and usually fades through the night. It has got better lately.
There have been occasions where I've lashed out at my girlfriend in my sleep 'almost' hitting her (I was not dreaming of her at the time).
I've had periods of talking aloud whilst asleep and even been semi aware of it.
I've had some very vivid dreams including nightmares, often relating to a film I recently watched or being like 'living out a film'. Films have NEVER given me nightmares before.
Of course all of these things can be very common in anyone but with Nardil they are much more pronounced with a particular wierdness to them.
Most important for me is that, apart from snoring, I haven't had these effects since giving up caffein. Even the snoring only happens on an occasional basis.
Regards,
teck

I have been on and off nardil for about 25 years because nothing else has helped including VNS trial and ECT.So for sanity's sake back on 90mg of the 'new' Nardil and am having a lot of S.E. you descibed. A lot of Knee jerking & restless leg movement. Christ I even got slapped in the face while trying to get to sleep one night. I guess my arms decided to get into the act too. Also some preety strong brain buzz's. I used to get some side effects on the old Nardil but nothing like these at the same dosage.
This is the end of the thread.
