At the moment, I am living in the most disgusting house....it is like third world conditions I'm not kidding!!!
But the funny thing is this: I am not depressed about it, and still go home motivated! I know for a fact if I was on a wek AD (i.e. Zoloft) it would affect me adversely but Nardil just has this way of shutting out any depression.
Nardil=Brilliance!!!!!!!!!

Ace,
Your posts were part of the reason why I chose to go to Nardil next for my social anxiety/atypical depression. I have tried Effexor, Zoloft, Prozac, and Paxil (which stopped working it's MAGIC after 3 years). After trying 3 SSRI's to no avail after Paxil pooped out, I jumped straight to Nardil. It's been 6 days since my first pill so I really can't say much, but I have high hopes for it! Supposedly, the next generation of AD's are going to be "Triple Reuptake Inhibiters" targeting dopamine, norepenephrine, and serotonin, exactly what the MAOI's target only they won't bind to the MAO enzyme which would make them effective without a diet. Basically MAOI's without the diet from my limited understanding.....
I've read most of your posts and you seem to enjoy the 'orange pills' quite a bit. I'm hoping it works for me as well as it did for you.

Thx Maxime! I live in between North and South Carolina. Does anyone else know of a doctor in this area that will rx Nardil? I am on Effexor, Wellbutrin and Klonopin now but have heard good and bad re: Nardil. What causes the weight gain? Is it just the urge to eat?

Wildcard you won't find one here. And that's a good question about the wt gain. Fondly, Phillipa

I think some of these meds cause you to simply crave food thus making you fat. Nardil is supposed to be bad in the weight gain department. So is Paxil, Zyprexa, and a few others. Not everyone gains weight on these meds though.
I'm sure there are quite a few docs who prescribe MAOI's in North Carolina. The better pdocs recognize their value and continue to use them. I would call UNC's Pyschiatry Department if they have one and see if they use MAOI's. I went to Dr. Donald Klein in New York, one of the most well-known pdocs in the country, and he still uses MAOI's quite a bit. I'm seeing this guy at Emory now because I live in Georgia and he's still using them a lot also. As I said, the better pdocs know how good these drugs are and still use them. I'll bet if you called 5 pdocs in your area, at least one of them uses them. They are more widely used than you would think. Just because your doctor doesn't use MAOI's doesn't mean that others aren't using them with great success.
Some pdocs just don't care how long you suffer and will continue putting you on stuff that doesn't work that well but has less side effects whereas other pdocs recognize you have a life to live and therefore put you on an MAOI despite the risk of lawsuits and stuff. My old doctor didn't prescribe them solely because it wasn't "standard procedure" and if something went wrong and he was sued, he'd be liable whereas SSRI's are "standard procedures" so it's not all on the doctors shoulders. Some pdocs care more about what could happen to them than your health!

I tend to agree with CK1. When I was living in Washington D.C. I saw 5 pdoc and the 5th one said "yes, I agree, you should try an MAOI. They are good meds and I use them a lot.". So just keep trying until find one that does.
Good luck!
