6 mg of Clonazepam. I know that is a HIGH dose.
I dont want to go to Xanax, to many complications.
2mg relieves a panic attack in about 15min. Sometimes i have to take 3mg but it makes me depressed about 2 hours after i take it.
What do you take?

When I have experienced severe anxiety, I took zanax and went straight to sleep. When I wake up, I pray like there is no tomorrow and read scriptures. It helps until I am out there in the world again. I then take more zanax and go back to sleep. I start the cycle again and then it gets better.

I also have two very good friends who have patience with me. In the past, my anxiety has been about health issues. I asked my friends if the little bump on my leg was ok about once every 5 minutes (not exagerating. By the way, the little bump is an ingrown hair. My mind knew it, how come I was so worried?

Clonaz is effective, however Xanax is VERY effective fir extreme panic.
Why are you getting these attacks>-maybe your other meds?

Maddy, It seems you have answered your own question. If you only occasionally needed xanax then why not continue that. You say you're taking more now. For some reason doctors are afraid of this med. But if you don't abuse it works very well. Fondly, Phillipa

"For some reason doctors are afraid of this med."
--for damn good reason- i was given .25mg Xanax and foung it VERY u=much like alcohol. An nitial high, follewedd by sedation, hangover--just like alcohol.I would rather stick with valium, much safer!

Xanax XR 1mg b.i.d. worked great for me, if you need to take it daily.

I musta tried 30+ meds over the past 8 years, and Seroquel was the only one to hit the anxiety rushes I had. Try 25mg or lower doses, if they have it.
The next best would be Klonopin. To my body, much more effective than Xanax and I've never ever felt any depression from it.
Really, you have to try and see what works for you. Every med affects everyone differently. Good luck with the pdoc and keep us posted.

A couple of years ago after my son was dxd with schizophrenia, I used to take him on night rides in our convertible which helped him settle down at night. He had been taking Zyprexa a few weeks at the time. About 15 miles into our ride, he said he was a little sick and wanted to get a drink of water. I stopped at the next grocery and got him a large bottle and a few minutes after downing it he was ready to go again.
On his next Pdoc visit he described the incident and the Dr said it was a "Panic Attack" and wrote out a scrip for Klonopin. My son seemed to need the Klonopin more and more often after that.
Later in a conversation with my son he said it was like choking or difficulty in swallowing. We decided to get him checked and he had a Barium swallow test which indicated he did have a swallowing problem. I started reading through the side effects of his meds Zyprexa listed difficulty swallowing as a side effect. He was on 20mg Zyp a day so we got him cut back to 15 mg without a problem. He still has some difficulty swallowing and even more 1-2 hours after taking Zyprexa but he needs it to function so he is still on 15 mg per day.
The thing is what he and the Pdoc believed to be a panic attack was/is most likely the result of taking Zyprexa. Has anyone else had this problem with Zyprexa?

Hi!
Do you split the 25mg daily (bid, tid)?
I took once a mood stabilizer and it knocked me totally out for two days after one very small dosage. How do you compare seroquel to klonopin?-Klonopin is said to be the treatment for panic and social phobia
kind regards

My main problem is anxiety (and when it comes, it's horrific- the want-to-jump out of my skin or any nearby window type of anxiety).
I occasionally get depression- only had deep, pit, wanting to kill myself depression once and it was when I was on Lexapro.
Anyway, I was taking Xanex as needed- I cut .25 in half and it worked just fine.
Later on doctor put me on Klonopin- said it lasted longer. It never has been effective for me. Of course, I never have taken it like my doctor prescribed it either. He says "take .5 twice a day." I cut .5 in half once per day.
I was on it a few months, went off of it a few months, and because of recent roaring anxiety again, I've started it back again.
I don't know if it helps. I suppose it helps some but I still have racing thoughts and feel very abnormal much of the time lately.
But I am sick too- fevers, fibromyalgia, lupus, yadda, yadda yadda.

spriggy,I find that a quarter mg of Klonopin is like taking nothing at all. but a half mg almost completely gets rid of that feeling of wanting to jump out the window. And it lasts all day. Maybe you are concerned about the dependency issue. So am I. I hate being reliant on Klonopin for my sanity. OTOH, I want my sanity more than I want to be off Klonopin. And I don't think .5mg per day is that big of a dose. A lot of people take a whole lot more.
It's amazing to me how such a small dose can be so effective for me against such an overwhelming feeling of fear.
I guess your doctor is thinking that if you took another half mg at night, you might not wake up so scared. However, it's been my experience that taking an additional dose at night didn't make any difference in how I felt when I woke up.
The only thing that has kept me from waking up with that awful feeling is Zyprexa. I wish I could take it long term but I can't. Just thought you might want to know about it though.

Hi marsha,
Does the 0.5mg klonopin has its full effect immediately or how long does it take to feel the full antianxiety effect for you? -I have read of up to four weeks to reach steady-state plasma levels->You have to wait a long time for its full effect.
For me one dosage of 0.5mg Klonopin only sedate me only a bit, up to 2mg would make a difference. I have taken up to 5mg at once, it sedated me also but it worked definately against anxiety and lead even to disinhibition.
kind regards

For me, I don't think my blood levels are very high because if I miss even one day's dose, my anxiety is definitely still there. What happens with me is I take my 1/3 -1/2 in the morning. After about 2 hours, I feel less scared and agitated. My pdoc said it would work a lot quicker if I took more but I don't want to take more.
It's also possibly that just the action of taking the Klonopin has a calming effect. I know I've taken it and I kind of immediately feel calmer because I know I won't get terrified that day. A sort of placebo effect.

I'm scared of dependency though so I just kind of take the minimum I think I can get by with, based on how anxious I feel that day when I wake up.
Hope this helps a little
Marsha
