Anyone w/ knowledge of PTSD

Posted by wildcard on September 12, 2005, at 22:06:18

i read the post re: PTSD ^^ and i am wondering(this is really hard for me), is it possible that PTSD from a violent rape could never go away? i have been in counseling for years and a variety of meds but i am not better. i had depression before but since, it is constant and much worse. i also have extreme anxiety in social situations that is still no better and i just wondered if this cld. be a lifelong issue. thx

Hi.

PTSD can last for years if left untreated. I don't know what the average prognosis is for improvement and what criteria help determine this, but PTSD can be paralyzing and cause panic attacks and exacerbated depression. One event can cause PTSD. This occurs often if one is in fear for their life.

What I would advise for you is that you use an Internet search engine like Google or Yahoo to find more definitive material regarding PTSD. Begin to educate yourself. I would not rely on the paucity of my knowledge on the subject.

PTSD is very real.

What medications have you tried?

hey scott! i have read that link but thank u for taking ur time to post it. i have went by the textbook info. regarding all my dx's and i just wanted input from real people that have the same issues or are very knowledgable about them, like urself.
> to date i have been on:
1)prozac
2)paxil
3)zoloft
4)lexapro
5)wellbutrin
6)effexor
7)trazadone
8)ativan
9)buspar
10)xanax
11)klonopin
and i'm sure im forgetting a few...effexor works the best combined w/ klonopin but i have a severe lack of energy and motivation. i see my doc next week and thought of asking him to add wellbutrin for energy and the residual depression and possibly topomax for the severe migraines. i know that any traumatic event will effect someone to some extent throughout their life but i thought things wld. have eased up some by now. sorry i'm rambling, just sick and tired of being sick and tired. thx again

Hello Wildcard..

I've read that Topamax can be useful for the treatment of PTSD..

I don't see any tricyclics listed. Anafranil (clomipramine) would probably be the best bet for efficacy because of its anti-obsessional properties. If Effexor was effective, this would perhaps be a prognosticator of the effectiveness of Anafranil or Tofranil (imipramine).

Hi.

Nardil is also worthy of consideration.

Wildcard, they're TCA's like the nortriptaline I'm getting ready to try again. Go to crazy meds .org I think it is. You will love that site. Fondly, Phillipa
