Posted by willyee on September 8, 2005, at 7:10:27

Just did some reading on this after being reminded of its existense (thanks tom twlight) Looks like a really good med, anyone at all try it.

I was surprised to see when i did a google group search on it i dident find a single actual user.

I also read it can help reinforce dopamine meds and help prevent there poop out.

Im not in North Caroline, but in Vabeach which is 40 min at the most,my parents drive there for there weekly POISION uh i mean cigarettes.

Yess i have been prescribed both nardil and parnate,BUT i lucked out with my doc, well if you call going through a number of others till i found her lucking out.

Previous to my doc,not a single other doc in the state would prescribe me an MAOI.

Also in the midst of possably switching docs i could not because not only will any doc here prescribe them, they will not work with them, and every attempted switch resulted in the new doc fore telling me if i undertook them the first thing on their agenda would be to bring me OFF a MAOI.

Also my current doc did not just hand me parnate,i was with her a while, and presented paperwork and annoyance.

Luckly she actualy is old, well MATURE enough to remember maois and remebered working with them.

So yess she has prescribed me parnate/nardil,but she said i am her only patient on it and she would NOT prescribe it to any other patient unless the situation was as extreme as mine.

I also have a close frien in upstate ny who tried very very hard to get a maoi and could NOT,she literaly was REFUSED blunt out NOT!

Its amazing theres a med out legal available and a docter will comptly refuse any thought of allowing u to use it.

Luckly now after 4 years my doc is comptly comfortable with me on it,shed rather i wasnt since it makes her job difficult to work with me on my depression due to limitations on other meds.

But she has been VERY open about being unconventional with my maoi,at first she wasnt, now she thinks with me just as hard about what to get in the cocktail to help,in fact she actualy mentioned adding ritalin to parnate.

She has her downside, she is liking being in a closet sized room with judge judy on speed,BUT overall she cares for my progress, prescribing me ritalin with an maoi to me shows that, shows she is willing to take risks to stop my grueling suffering.

Lol its funny ill get a huff and puff response when i come in after a failed med,or if i ask for something, but i keep quite and sure enough she reads and i get it.

She has made a few rejections on some requests, she said she does have limitations and i understand i am more willing to take an maoi risk than she is since she is the one responsable for my care.

Whew sorry for the long post, but after all that basicaly the result is it will take someone a lot of work,a versatile understanding doc,and agressiveness to get an maoi, you are not gonna be handed one like its a new med.

thanx for the info.. (nm) » willyee
