Well I thought I was off Effexor. I had to take a 75mg pill last night to stop the noise from my eyes. I went 3 days without any. Will see if I can go 4 days this time etc...

Yes, every once in a while, my heart feels like it is *racing*, too. My BP seems to be lower, though. Interesting side effects. -TinMan

Why back on Effexor? Was it the best for you? If I go back on meds I hope it ain't Effexor. What are you taking it for if I can Ask? Danny

I have tried soooo many AD's w/o success and effexor xr is the only one that helps me. i take it for severe depression, social and general anxiety along w/ klonopin. i just took 225mg today and i take 1-2mg of klonopin a day. i have NO motivation though so my doc will hopefully add wellbutrin. i quit b/c once again i thought i cld feel better *mind over matter* but i promised myself if i felt bad again, i wld start again before the depression was too bad. ask anything. im glad to help. I just started this today and already i don't know if i like the way it makes me feel. It knocked me out for 4 hours midday. I suffer from ptsd & depression. I have tried several meds but don't like the way i feel when i'm on them. I have also noticed that my jaw is almost always clinched- which is going to give me a horrible headache. Any suggestions from anyone will be welcome. Also.....I have the worst case of nausea that i have ever had in my life. Can't even think of food i want to hurl.
Thank You!!!

I see so much written about the effects of withdrawal. I am taking the med only for GAD. Luckily I don't have any depression. I thought I might stay on this for a month or two and then stop. Is this a mistake? Do you take this medicine for the rest of your life or just until you improve enough to live without it?
Thanks again and God bless all of you for this support group esp Dr Bob.

I too have major depressive d/o,PTSD,social and general anxiety and after MANY meds., effexor xr works best for me. The first week or so is the hardest re: the s/e but once it evens out, most of those go away or lesson. Good luck. It takes time!!

Hey Rob! Effexor works well for GAD but it's hard to say if u wld. need the med. for the rest of ur life. Usually if u take the meds. and go through therapy w/ a GOOD therapist, some people realize what (if the anxiety is triggered by something) they can do differently and can function w/o the meds..Everyone is different so time will tell. I hope the best for you!

Did you also have a hard time with nausea??? I can't even smell food and not feel like i'm going to hurl. I have read a little on it and i gathered that this is a normal side effect but how much nausea is normal???They also started me on another med for pain that also causes nausea so i think i may have got a double whammy.

Sorry I am new this is what I meant to post.
Subject : I have been prescribed Effexor XR 37.5MG
What should I expect ? My past meds have been Zoloft, Celexa, Paxil CR, and another that started with an N . Sorry don't remember what it was. Anyways I am in group therapy at the moment due to an overdose. I have been diagnosed as a manic depressive with a social anxiety disorder as well as Generalized Anxiety Disorder . Which I think go hand in hand. So what I am asking is has anyone with similar afflictions had success with Effexor ? Also what can I expect from taking this medication ? Any and all answers are much appreciated.

> Thank You!!!Many side effects go away soon, either because your body gets used to the med, or because your dosage is increased and the side effect does not ocur with a higher dosage. I had nausea when starting effexorxr)- when I took with food (breakfast) this helped a lot. Anxiety or sleeping a lot - try taking it at night.
I had pretty bad constipation followed by bowel movement emergency (urgency) during the first 3 weeks. . Lots of fun. It went away after about 10 days. Same thing with the restless syndrome.

Well everyone is different and reacts differently to meds. but my own experience w/ effexor, it has worked the best of all the AD's ive been on. I have been on every med that u listed so i know how u feel. The meds. u listed mainly focus on ur serontonin and effexor works on serontonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine (Lippincott's 02 drug guide). 37.5 is usually the starting dose and u will go uo to 75mg. I take 225mg(day 2) which is pretty effective for my major depression, ptsd and anxiety. Effexor may cause nausea at first, some irritability, and if ur on xr, trouble sleeping(take in AM if so). There are many more s/e but u can look those up under google. I adapted well to effexor and when i tried to quit, had no harsh s/e. Let me know if i can help.

At first i did but it subsided. I now take 225mg a day and have no nausea at all but my appetite is not out of control either. ; ) It takes about a week but really depends on ur body. It is worth the relief if u can handle the s/e at first. I took it w/ crackers in the AM when i started and that helped. U can always ask ur doc for something to help temp. w/ the nausea. Good luck!

I am hoping my experience with Effexor XR will be as rewarding as it has been for you. I am going through a ton of changes right now so I will probably notice its affects soon. I dropped my former doctor and am now going with a doctor I met at my first therapy session. Thank you for the adive about taking it in the morning. My doctor also told me to do this as well. Now I know why. Thanks a ton for your responce Wildcard and I will be monitoring and contributing my experience with the new med on this forum.
Again thanks for the reply. If anyone else has anything they would like to chime in on I am all ears/or eyes lol.

Took my last 75mg on Saturday and thought it would be fine. Well on Monday the ship started rocking and the Dramamine and Benedryel could not even stop it. On Wednesday I had to leave work to go lay down. Talked to my Pharm. and he said I was coming off too fast. Told me to take another 75mg that night and the side effects went away. Talked to my Meds Doc and he is giving me some 34mg Effexor to slowly help me come off of them. He said different people react in different ways.
I agree the Effexor at 225mg was great but the side affects I was having were too much. Will try to go med less and if need to will revisit meds but I do not think Effexor will be one of them.
Good luck to all of you who are doing well on it and for those trying to leave it the ship can rock pretty hard at times. Danny
