Parnate fatigue?

Posted by EERRIICC on September 5, 2005, at 20:58:00

Why does parnate (I'm on 150mg a day) cause such strange physical fatigue? I'm out of breath and weak after any sort of exercise!

Bro your on a very high dose,150 is high, your getting a lot of serotion.

Although its not bad,and can be helpful,150 is still considered a high dose and i too get so tired at a dose near that.

You can try taking a pure caffiene tab. Also did u stop the ritalin.

Only 120mg and up seems to work. I'm still on ritalin 5mg t.i.d. and hoping to increase it.

This is very unusual for your dosage. Did you have more or less fatigue at 90-120mg/day? How about 80mg/day and below?

Have you checked your BP when you feel fatigued? This sounds like hypotension. When I took 200mg/day tranylcypromine, I took 100mg upon rising, then 20mg every three hours thereafter. That provided a good balance between the hypotensive effect of tranylcypromine and the sympathomimetic effect of its metabolites.
How are you taking it? Another strategy you could use __if you can tolerate it__ is to take all 150mg at once in the morning. Within 2-3 hours or so, you'll have enough metabolite formed to feel OK, probably. Do this at your own risk; I am able to tolerate a lot more tranylcypromine than most.

When I used to order it from a chemical supply house, I once took 400mg/day in divided doses with EXCELLENT results (on par with Nardil for SP) for a few weeks (no hypomania or any other side effects you'd expect). Unfortunately, I developed severe thrombocytopenia which resolved upon reducing the dose back to 200mg/day. Good thing I was asking my physician to administer certain blood tests--including a platelet count--frequently so I caught that. From now on I'll stick to whatever dose Ivan Goldberg says is the max. ;)

If chairman remembers i also complained of the same thing.

If my parnate dose was too high i became weak and tired. Also i began to notice a different effect from it.

Oddly more so is the addition of ritlain has not overlapped this problem.

I added a pure caffiene tab,in minutes i felt great, then the caffiene settled in and the edginess came on so i had to deal with that, all in all it was still better than staying fatigued on the parnate.

I know its riddiclous we have to play mad scientist with these damn things.

Chairman how u tolerated a single 100 mg dose rocks my thinking,WOW lol.

I actually can tolerate a 200mg dose no problem whatsoever. Note that this was after I worked up to it, though.

When I first startd the parnate I started right off at 0.7mg/kg, and my BP was arond 160 for a few days until it settled down.

I promise you that if you can push the tranylcypromine to at least 120mg/day (150mg-200mg is more robust), there will be a point at which the sedation is overcome by stimulation. Also, at the high doses TCP downregulates 5ht2, while at normal doses it doesn't. This provides an additional anti-anxiety effect.
