Just started this combination and I'm taking 5mg ritalin with 50mg parnate 3 times a day. It's not helping so far (I wheigh 225lbs)is it the ritalin dose? Won't I just "crash" from the ritalin every time I take this combination?
Thanks,
Eric

I just asked my doctor about this combo the other day. I'm on 50mg Parnate. She said no way would she add Ritalin to Parnate. What are you trying to accomplish? Lessened depression, better sleep, ...? Please continue to post on this -- am very curious about how to augment Parnate. Take care, Lauren

My docter actualy suggested this.I have been doing horrable broke down in her office, she wants to help me very badly. The parnate has pooped out on me after 4 years of use.She knows i wont go on any more ssris. We tried mood stablizers and they worsened my depression,
So as i sat in her office i explained how i have adhd like symtpoms too.She said well we could try adding a small dose of ritalin.
Also there are a LOT of documented cases of ritalin or dexadrine being added to parnate in very treatment resistent cases.
Well 3rd day on it and the misery is gone, mind u i dont really feel like i want to,BUT the horrid depression is gone,so thats all i wanted right now is to be able to function and ritalin so far is doing that.
Also my doc has no other patients on Maois, and she would not put them on it,she knows me very well after four years, know i research and havemt had her notified of a maoi problem so she is loose with me.
I went to one other doc recently and she told me she would take me off parnate if i wanted to see her,she said i cant eat choclate, cheese yada yade.I can imagine her mouth drop if she knew i take ritalin with it.
So in closing, its not a combo a doc is gonna be happy about, prob 90 percent of docs wont even toy that idea. However there are documented cases, many that show ritalin can help parnate poop out.It gives parnate a kick back to reality. It also adds a calming effect if u are hyper active.
As for its interaction, the first day was a little uncomfortable, but every new med introduced with parnate is,now on day 3 with my docs permission i take 2 5 mg tabs with 30 mg of parnate. Then the remainder of the day i just take parnate.I have had succesful results, again im not where i wanna be,but the crying bouts, the morning sickness, the sucidal thougts have totaly
subsided and honestly the ritalin is mil i just feel like im taking stronger parnate i feel no interaction at all,i dont even feel the ritalin.
Ritalin ehances dopamine serotion and NE,so it in itself is a anti depressant and similiar to what parnate does,so its just adding to the parnate.Im grateful my doc thought of it,i was so bad off my mind went blank and id normaly make suggestion this visit i had nothing i sat there in her mercy.Id like to hear ur thoughts

5 mg is a very low dose, from what I've read it doesn't matter so much what your weight is when it comes to stimulants. Myself I find ritalin very calming, not at all energizing as I had hoped. I didn't really crash when it wore off but it's not at all subtle when it does either. Maybe being on a relatively high dose MAOI there would be less of a crash effect?

Willy, you and Eric both seem to respond well to dopaminergic meds, not all of them perhaps, but that seems to be what you are looking for.
