MEGA Zyprexa

Posted by ed_uk on July 22, 2005, at 15:25:54

Hmm, we had a weird prescription in the pharmacy today.

Zyprexa 15mg tablets (84)
Take ONE three times a day

45mg Zyprexa? OMG! This was a starting dose - the patient hadn't taken any Zyprexa for over a year....or so he said. The pharmacist decided not to dispense the prescription without confirmation from the prescriber. Anyway, the pharmacist rang the doctor and he insisted that that the dose was correct........so the patient got his Zyprexa. The patient seemed quite relaxed and cheerful. Something tells me he's not gonna be so cheerful after he's taken all that Zyprexa.

I still think it was a mistake personally. It was probably supposed to be 5mg three times a day or 15mg once daily. I think the GP was confused.

that would be complete nightmare!

maybe he was psychotic and hiding it.

45mg of Zyprexa excuse while i go sit in chair for 10 hours zombied. Or Vomit. Either one would suite.

Thorazine 200mg X 3 daily would be the med for me!

Hi Matt,

>Thorazine 200mg X 3 daily would be the med for me!

Why do you want to try chlorpromazine? Perhaps you could try 10mg and see how it affects you.

I am joking ed.

Thorazine would be the last med.

I just talk about it as something that would shut me up. ;)

LOL Matt, you don't want to take something that will shut you up. You want something that will get you better!

~Ed

PS. Sure, 10mg Thorazine *might* help your anxiety, but probably not as much as Zyprexa. 200mg x 3 Thorazine would probably make you feel like utter crap!

One of my former clients, a pharmacist in a hospital, told me about yelling at a young doctor, "I like you better when you're asleep, because you're not making mistakes then!" Had me laughing in the aisle...

I don't really think so. I've worked with brain injured clients who have been on 20mg 4x a day. In fact in brain/head injury, you wouldn't believe some of Rx's and doses. My real worry would be about the possible problems with the drug causing diabetes more than anything. I take a cocktail of meds that is very unconventional, and most people would (or have..).say/said. "..are you out of your f*cking mind?!"..lol..:-)" And I'd just say.."yah...and that's why I am taking them!!.."

45 mg of zyprexa would probably make me appear to have had brain injury:) But I guess I don't know.

Hi Jay :-)

Not as a starting dose though. This man was starting Zyprexa at 45mg!

Kind regards

Not a therapist, although I'll take that as a compliment and thank you for it.

JESUS! 45mg!!!?!

Maybe there was a mistake. I mean heck, 5mg ONCE a day was enough to make me twitch all over and seize every hour or so.

I cannot fathom how one could even stay awake on such a dose. I'd be sleeping 24/7.
