lexapro help...

Posted by mellymel_d on July 5, 2005, at 16:40:02

i've beenon lex 10mgs for about a year and i'm starting to feel anxiety and depression again. I was just wondering how long i should wait before i change my dose and what doses work for people? I've being going through a lot laely i got in a car accident 3 months ago and still haven't fully recovered, so i'm not working right now, i'm gaining weight again and i feel so depressed. On top of that my anxiety has been coming back strong. I'm holding on to the knot that i've tied to the end of my rope. Any advice??? I just want to hear that i'm not crazy or alone right now because that's how i feel. Like i have no control of my own mind.I'm tired of this...

can you talk to your doc about upping your dose? when the stress pours in, sometimes that's just what our body is trying to tell us.

You most definitely need to increase the dose. You should then feel much better within a couple of days.

Start with an extra 5 mg, or an extra 10 mg. The 20 mg pills are scored, so they are easy to cut. You can then cut each half in half to get 5 mg.

Theres a saying that made me think of u...
WHEN U GET TO THE END OF YOUR ROPE,
TIE A KNOT AND HANG ON;
BUT KNOW THAT IF YOU START TO SLIP,
EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW YOU,
I'LL DO MY DAMNDEST TO CATCH YOU.
ive been on lex and a year is a very sufficient time for an increase if it begins to not work as well. people tend to get "used" to that level and it no longer helps.call ur doc ASAP and let them know b/c added stressors are affecting u also.u can do it-please keep me posted

I went from 10 Lexapro to 20 to 30 to 40mg over about 1.5 years. After about 6 months on 40, the effects started wearing off. I talked with my PCP about switching to Effexor (my previous PCP very quickly wrote out a prescription; my current is much more conservative), but he suggested adding Wellbutrin. Three months or so on and it's been a good combination.

I queried the forum about dosages a number of months ago and several people replied that 40mg of Lexapro is not uncommon.

When I was still on Lexapro (I've been off 3 weeks now), my doc added Wellbutrin when it started not to work as well for my depression because Wellbutrin is supposed to boost the effects of Lexapro. It totally worked for me (of course I had the problem of hypomania, but that's a different story).

Try upping your dosage and if that doesn't help, try a "booster" AD.

Good luck.

wellbutrin seems to add well with the SSRIs. my body wanting to be the opposite, did not do well adding lexapro to my already using wellbutrin. but i think i am the exception to the rule. i just take only wellbutrin. even 5mg lexapro pushed me further into depression as every SSRI has. think that is just my chemicals, though.
