I had great results on Marplan. I had a problem with water retention but was able to beat it by watching/cutting my salt/sodium intake and eating foods that were natural diuretics. Also I almost had major problems by taking a decongestant by acident.

Terrence Ketter MD at Stanford prefers to use Marplan over Nardil. I don't fully understand why, but I think he takes into account side effects and stress on the liver. He gets a lot of people well. I tried Marplan, but only for two weeks. I experienced no side effects. Because I was so impatient at the time, I aborted the trial far too early. I don't remember what dosage I had reached, but I would try it again and give it an adequate trial.

> DeclanDeclan, It was a silly accident. I was caught out in one of our famous NM windstorms which are almost as good as Mo tornados and came down with a raging strep infection. Running a 103.5 fever, which with me means that I was not really competent but completely coherent, I staggered to the clinic. On questioning I did remember to say I was on an antidepressant, but didn't say which one. Of course, they perscribed a decongestant, which you DO NOT TAKE with MAOI's just as you don't take antihistamines with any other antidepressant. We figured my pressure went over 180-200. I thought my head would explode and I wished it would! Luckily my husband remembered the MAOI has a main side effect of pressure reactions. So I stopped taking TavistD, which worked very well and I highly recommend it but NOT to someone taking an MAOI.! Luckily, nothing bad happened just a bad bad headache for @2 days.

OK, so that's phenylpropanolamine. I assume (but don't know at all) that that would be more dangerous than pseudoephedrine, which I sometimes take for rhinitis, only not now because I'm on Parnate 10mg.
