Fatigue, Sleepiness, Lethary -- SLS? ??

Posted by Racer on June 26, 2005, at 23:44:09

Somewhere up the board, you answered a question by saying something about there being a difference between fatigue and sleepiness, or something like that? Can you tell me how you define the difference?

As I've mentioned, the [whatever] is hitting me hard -- needed TWO naps today! -- and I want to be sure I'm explaining the problem to my trusted Dr CattleProd next time I see him. Whatever it is, it's driving me -- well, guess I can't say it's driving me there, but it's keeping me watching the landscape, I guess...

Thanks, Scott. You really are a peach, you know, even if you're not from Georgia. And you're also a very likeable sort of fellow, too.

Hi Racer.

I don't know what I did to deserve so many accolades this week, but I'll take it with relish.

I think fatigue is a feeling of physical exhaustion and general weakness as if you had been engaged in an extended period of intense exercise. Fatigue does not necessarily promote sleep. Conversely, sleepiness does not need to be precipitated by fatigue. You can be without feelings of exhaustion, yet, still have trouble staying awake and always be in need of a nap.

That's about the best that I could do. I hope it helps.

Scott, if I could understand it anyone else will too. And you are a peach. Right now NC peaches are in the stores. Fondly, Phillipa
