Hi all,
I've been on Lamictal for just over 3 weeks now, in addition to Nardil. (60 mg Nardil and 50 mg Lamictal...soon to go to 75 mg with pdoc's approval.)What I am noticing so far...I have had a few days when I felt somewhat restless and had a hard time sitting still. This posed a problem one day when I was supposed to sit still for 3 50 minute periods in a row at work. I've also had some mid day fatigue requiring naps. Not sure if either of those are related or not. I did miss sleep one night working on a project, and boy did I pay for it the next day.
On the positive side, I am feeling pretty good. Sexual feelings are returning, and I've been dreaming more. The dreams have been useful in my therapy sessions as grist for the mill. I've been able to enjoy myself in leisure and social activities more than before. I've also been expressing myself a bit more freely, especially anger. I did wonder if Lamictal might make someone more prone to be irritable or have a hair trigger, but this may also be related to therapy. But I've discovered a "screaming banshee" side which is quite interesting, and a bit useful at times. :)
At any rate, so far so good. I'm hoping to be able to try going to 45 mg of Nardil to see what happens. I so would love to avoid edema, weight gain, and the like from Nardil.
Take care,
gg

I'm considering starting Lamictal for depression and migraine headaches. I've read that it is effective for some for both of those conditions. What was your Lamictal prescribed for? Did you start it separately from the Nardil, and if so can you distinguish any side effects from Lamictal?
Thanks, Barbara

Hi interested,
I've been on Nardil for about 18 months now for atypical depression. Incidentally, Nardil seems to eliminate migraines for me, although I have no idea why.I started Lamictal recently to try to get at any residual depression and also to try to lower my Nardil dose since I've gained a ton of weight and I get peripheral edema sometimes requiring Lasix.
I don't know if I have noticed any side effects of Lamictal, except maybe being a bit restless at times. Other than that, I just feel better.

My understanding is that serotonin and GABA play a role in migraines. Nardil increases both. So it could be that it's doing so in just the right way to suit your migraine chemistry.
Just a thought,

Hi GG :-)
>Nardil seems to eliminate migraines for me........
Nardil's occasionally prescribed to prevent migraines. Perhaps the low-tyramine diet helps too.

Well since you're doing so well increase the lamictal slowly. You don't want to get that itch. But you probably already know this. Fondly, Phillipa

"Perhaps the low-tyramine diet helps too."---
Ed, Do you have suggested reading for a "low-tyramine" diet? I would like to avoid weight gain, which it appears that Nardil causes.
Thanks, Barbara

Barbara,
Just to clarify, and you may already know this...the low tyramine diet is to avoid hypertensive crises. It has nothing to do with Nardil weight gain, unfortunately, but it must be followed if you take an MAOI.gg
