Gotta watch which Board you post on. There's another one that almost guarantees you'll get in trouble. And I'll bet you know which one. Fondly, Phillipa

By the fourth day of amitriptyline I found myself becoming ragingly angry over the smallest thing. I wanted to kick things and curse at people who got in my way. I also got a bad headache.By the way, I'm also NE sensitive. (Increased anxiety on cymbalta and on nortriptyline. Not on Effexor but I took a very small dose 37.5mg).

Took it, knocked me on my A**, didn't like it at all. Didn't do anything else for me. Xanax did the same thing to me, I must be sensitive.

Amitriptyline totally knocks me out during the daytime, and at only 5mg.

Took 25mg once for sleep. Absolutely vile. Have no plans to repeat the experience. Very anticholinergic. Boy you'd have to be depressed to put up with those so called side effects.

Haha, I know what you mean!! Extreme drowsiness and fatigue, couldn't pee till it wore off, blurred vision - couldn't focus, felt extremely spaced out, NO saliva.........
Ever tried dothiepin (Prothiaden)? It's almost as bad as amitriptyline.
Kind regards,
Ed.

No Ed, my experiences with these terrible drugs are resricted to amitriptyline, Largactil, Mellaril, Stellazine, Torecan, and Serenace. What an absolute nightmare. Worse than a smack habit IMHO. And the names. Who thought them up?

My horrible experiences are restricted to amitriptyline, dothiepin and Largactil. Largactil being the worst by far.
How did you find Stelazine, Serenace and Mellaril??
>And the names. Who thought them up?
Serenace = serene, I don't think so lol!
Mellaril = mellow, errrrrrrr no.
Stelazine = star??
Largactil = large actions?Kind regards,
Ed.

I had thought trazadone might be worth a look at (the priapism thing), but after what I've read here I'm not so sure.

Actually trazadone worked decently for me as a sleep aid for about a year. Over time I had to increase dosage and the morning hang-over side effect became bothersome. No problem with the priapism thing, in fact it improved my sex life.

Hi Jake :-)
sdb also found that trazodone improved his sex life. It sounds like you're doing well on amitrip. What time do you take it? Some people take it about 90 mins before they go to bed.

I'm doing ok with it for now. I'm still researching various alternatives to best deal with my insomnia and agitiated depression. I try to take it about 2 hours before I go to bed. Then I take 3 mg Lunesta right before bedtime. The amitrip is calming for me...the two seem to blend together nicely.

Do you find that it minimises the morning drowsiness if you take it earlier in the evening?

Yes, I take it as early as 7 pm. Amitryp does seem to stay in the system a long time. And I take no more than 25mg. Usually a cup of coffee in the morning alleviates the desire to become a fixture in my bed.
