cholesterol friendly AD's?

Posted by JaneB on April 10, 2005, at 9:20:57

Zoloft raises my cholesterol! Can anyone shed any light on this? Would all AD's have the same effect or could I switch to a different one? I would hate to have to take a cholesterol lowering med. I am trying to cut back--not add more meds.

I can understand that. Are you sure the drug is raising it? Is that what your pdoc thinks?I'm on a low dose of zoloft and my cholesterol is around 2l5 which is too high. Fondly, Phillipa

Yes, my experience tells me that it does. Doc just humors me. This website confirms that Zoloft "should be changed, if it can, prior to taking any lipid lowering medication."

www.wdxcyber.com/ngen15.htm

But it does not say why. I like to know the "why". I am going to try to go without Zoloft for 3 months and see what the results are when I am rechecked.

215 is high but mine is 251 and I eat right, slim build, don't smoke or drink and stay fairly active. I guess I will have to cut out ice cream, eat more oatmeal and exercise more.

The doctors say that anxiety can contribute to heart disease and therefore meds are beneficial but what if the meds cause high cholesterol. Doesn't make sense to me. And in the article at the above website only the AD Zoloft was mentioned as a caution in women with high cholesterol. What is it about Zoloft I wonder.

That's nice! And I have hypothyroidism too. I tested high before the addition of zoloft too. I guess I will look up zoloft and maybe post a thread to see if anyone here knows anything about it. Fondly, Phillipa
