Hi,
I have been taking Tompamax for 3 weeks now 100 MG per day to stabalize my mood and have been experiencing some weird side-effects. The first thing is that if I don't keep up with the water drinking I notice that I have pain in my lower back. Maybe this is all psycho-sematic, but it has happend twice already. The next thing is tingling in my extremeties and on my face. I have noticed some cognitive effects as well. As I re-read this email I can tell I am not %100. But it has stabalized my moods. I haven't noticed any weight loss, but maybe it hasn't been long enough. Has anyone experienced the same?

Hi, I'm not on Topamax, but I am considering it, so I've done some reading up on it. What dose did you start on and how quickly did you go up to 100mg?
Also, I don't know about the water and back pain thing, but it can cause kidney stones as a less common side effect. The tingling in your extremities is common. It's parasthesias. That happens in about one of three people. Also, cognitive problems can be common, especially if you go up in dose too quickly.
That's about all I know from my reading. Hopefully someone else will post who is on it.
Take care,
gg

Hey gardengirl - you probably already know this, but just in case you don't.....Topomax renders birth control pills useless. My sister went on it for an eye tic and wasn't told. Now I have a wonderful 1 y.o. niece :D

I am taking topamax, 200mg right now. I started at 50mg, 25am and 25pm, and increase 25mg each week. If you side effects are too severe, increase every two weeks. You shouldn't have much congnative trouble if you go very slowely, and as far as that I have no other problems. I'm a little tired, but that could be the zoloft I take also. I haven't really noticed much of a decrease in appetite myself, but some people say it takes around 400mg per day to get that. Be patient. That's the tough part, I know. I still get the tingling in my feet, but it's not enough to bother me. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, and I also take Biotin, Zinc and Omega-3 Oil. My daughter also takes topamax, and she is doing fine also. Good luck. -L

You may mention it to your dr. Maybe it will pass. I *did* have the tingling in the extremities for about 4-5 weeks. And, even worse -- carbonated beverages tasted "off" for a very long time (about 6 months) but that too passed. Yeah!!! But after the adjustments, I have to tell you, Topamax did the job. I am an attorney. I litigate in court everyday. It was the one drug that augmented with Effexor XR to treat treatment resistant unipolar major depression and stabilize my mood. I suggest you try to bear with the tingles. They really do pass. If you can bear with it, I bet you will love the results. Be good to yourself-always. ;-D
