I was interested to read the threads about hypothyroidism and thought I'd add to...
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (mild) in 2001 when pregnant with my son. Continued on a very small dose until December 2003 when my test results indicated hyperthyroidism and the onset of Graves disease. I have struggled with anxiety/ depression on and off for about 6 years. I had radioactive iodine on my thyroid in March 2004 and just now got to "normal" thyroid levels (I will be checking to see if a T3 was ran) and take 150 mcg of synthroid daily. I am very frustrated because I question whether or not the radioactive iodine tx. was the way to go or did I doom myself to the problems associated with hypothyroidism related to anxiety/depression. Anyone in the same boat? I can't say that my anxiety has been better or worse when I was hyper or hypo- I don't know what it's like to feel good anymore. What is good for a 28 year old mother of a 3 year old boy- ? Help anyone?

The only thing I know is that my life has never been the same since I was dx'd with Hashimotos Thyroiditis 8yrs ago. I take .l25mcg of Synthroid daily and my complete thyroid panel is normal. So why do I have anxiety and depression now. As I said in a previous Thread, while working as an RN in psych a majority of pts had hypothyroidism. I think there is a lot we don't know about this. Fondly, Phillipa
