How Come Drug Co.s Don't Do This?

Posted by Phillipa on February 28, 2005, at 20:09:57

Thought it was interesting. How come I just signed on with an enviornmentally friendly company for my supplements named Melaleuca, for a mere $39 . I get all money back if I'm not satisfied in 90 days. No pressure to sell, etc. Just use the products at reduced price. Well, I want to know why the pharmacetical companies don't do the same. How many times have you paid enormous amts of money for a drug only to find out you can't take it. Then you have to replace it with something else. For instance I paid $l38 today to get 90 Brand name Valium because the pdoc wanted me to use them instead of generic partly because of what I learned on this Board. The insurance co. doesn't care what she wants either. What do you think of this? Fondly, Phillipa

Redirect: get all money back

Sorry about the extra click, but I'd like to redirect this thread to Psycho-Babble Social. Here's a link:

As I asked on the other thread about this, are you sure your insurance company doesn't have "tiers" for drugs, where the name brand has a higher co-pay than generic.

I'm wondering if what you describe is even legal.

There are some insurance companies that recognize that some drugs have a "narrow therapeutic index" and that the name brand is really needed.

In your case, if you find only a quantitative difference between the generic and name brand, then you can calculate if the name brand is worth the price difference.

In my case, I found a qualitative difference, where no amount of the generic was of any use at all, even if they would give it to me for free.

If you truly are stuck with high priced name brand, is "pill splitting" an option? Since pills cost about as much regardless of the dosage, people buy say 200 mg pills and chop then into 100 mg doses, if the 200 mg and 100 mg pill cost the same.

Also, different pharmacies charge different amounts for the same drug. A local news channel did a story on this for the seniors in the area, and found quite a difference in pricing.

This is the end of the thread.
