meds for ocd

Posted by nicki on February 7, 2005, at 12:12:37

My husband has ocd and the dr prescribed him 1st with celexa, that wasn't working , he then tried effexor to no avail and now he haas been on zoloft I think 50 or 75 mg for almost a year. I am seeing no help from this. I think they are treating him more for the anxiety he gets when things aren't "perfect". He has a very bad temper and I am miserable. I have 2 small children and I have bipolar. It sure is hard to deal with his temper when I 'm going through my things. I don't know what he tells his dr in the room but I don't think the message is getting across. He has anger and temper problems along with his OCD and his meanness is unbearable. Anyone out there had any luck with meds for OCD or anger mgmt problems?

Can't help with the anger management issues, but my DS is on Luvox for OCD and anxiety and it really is the only SSRI that completely eliminates his obsessive behaviors. Good luck, I know how hard it is to find something that works. It seems like a never ending struggle.

I know Luvox helped my OCD when I took it. No pdoc will rx it for me though. The drug companies win again! Fondly, Phillipa

Phillipa - where are you? If you are in the UK or US you shouldn't have a problem getting Luvox - generic at least. Is it just your pdoc that won't rx it?

Now how is that possible (I ask myself!)--all this time on this boardm and researching on my own and pdocs knowing I have extremely obsessive mind--and I didn't hear about Luvox??!!...I am glad it is working for others. Definitely a possibility for me to keep in mind.....

I don't know why they won't rx it for me. I had to call pdoc this morning as I almost fainted when getting out of bed, and when I lay down I heard wooshing in my head. Her comment was "we're working on getting you to sleep now, one thing at a time. " I'm going to add it to my list to bring when I see her next week. Now she had me call a neurologist to find out why my muscles are twitching. Is she an idiot? I'm withdrawing! Now no more xanax and .5klonopin 2x day. Fondly, Phillipa
