I've been on and antibiotic and prednisone for over a week for an asthma attack (didn't know I had asthma) and lung infection. A few days ago I started needing to yawn constantly. Sometimes I can't even "complete" the yawn. I left a message for my doc, but haven't heard back. I know when I sleep, I'm fine, and if I don't think about it, I've noticed I don't do it as much.
Could this be a side effect of the meds or perhaps anxiety? Does this sound familiar to anyone??

When I tried Celexa for the first time some years ago, I yawned constantly. Yawning is a listed side effect for SSRI/SNRI's. If you are not taking a new AD, I would be interested in hearing back from you with your MD's rationale for this phenomenon. :) Best to you, anneL

I've noticed I yawn ALL THE TIME. I take Effexor (150 mg) every morning (6 weeks now). My jaws "crack" and my daughter always worries that it hurts (it doesn't)!
Frozen feet also a side effect!

I yawn all the time when I'm really anxious. I also yawn when I have a full blown panic attack. I have done this for as long as I can remember since my anxiety problems started about 15 years ago. I feel like no matter what I just can't get that deep breath, although I don't feel short of breath, I just can't finish the yawn. I also do this after exercicing, when my adrenaline is up. It's a crazy feeling. I know how you feel.

You know I really think that it is anxiety now. I don't seem to do it when I'm not thinking about it. Also, I read prednisone can cause anxiety. I've noticed that I have been more anxious since I've been on it - even to the point where I know logically that I shouldn't be.
Thanks for your responses, it really makes me feel better!

I get a yawn attack about 2-3 hour after taking Provigil 200mg. This goes on for about an hour and goes away. Interesting you linking yawning to anxiety. I don't feel anxious, rather like napping. I am wondering now.
My Mom used to tell me a yawn is sort of a 'reset'. (Smile)

I have had yawning problems while being on my meds even when I wasn't anxious...I often wondered if my meds had anything to do with that. Definitely let us know wha the doc says
