Trazadone and sleep, anyone?

Posted by BennyJ on February 3, 2005, at 21:51:17

Hey,
I'm trying to wean myself off the enormous amount of benedryl ive been on to sleep and my pdoc wants me to augment with trazadone. This one is totally new to me, anyone have good success for sleep on 25 to 50 mg? the priapism issue is a lil unnerving

keep smilin,
Ben

It gets me to sleep, but I feel not too great when I wake up--sort of hung over. But nothing more than that in terms of negative effects. If I had nothing else and had to sleep, I'd use it...but my sleep issues are only occasional and benardyl still works for that.

I use Trazodone for sleep and I say, go for it. Even a small dose can eventually knock you out. I can't emphasize enough just good Trazodone can be.
The one thing both my brother and myself have noticed is that we have vivid dreams when we take it. It's kind of cool because it's almost like you're peeking into your self-concious to see what's going on and what's bothering you. Give it a whirl, don't expect any majro miracles (aka a benzo effect),and you will be pleasantly surprised. A good med.

Does it work for someone who is addicted to benzos, and already on remeron, ambien, xanax for sleep? What dose? Fondly, Phillipa

Trazadone worked for me for a bit and then I eventually had to take 150 mg of it for it to work. I would wake up feeling so hung over and that fur had grown on my tongue. I coudn't drink enough water!

I love it, personally. I take 50mg every night. I find that it keeps me asleep for about 8-9 hours, although I'm off and on awake after maybe about 7.

The first week or so I was hungover when I woke up, but that went away and now i'm wide awake and raring to go. I even wake up by myself without an alarm at the same time every day now. That part may be because I also started zoloft at the same time though. ;-)

Trazodone at 75 mg worked great for me. Slept like a baby but then I couldn't take it because along with the Celexa it was too much serotonin action and I developed flu-like symptoms. Wish I could take it though. It also improved my mood during the day too!

It worked well for me until I got up to the 100mg range. It's been a while, but I do recall feeling rested and refreshed. And certainly the vivid dreams, but then I already have pretty bizarre dreams as it is. Wish I had some tonight. Don't know how it would work for someone "addicted" to benzos. I have been on then pretty steady (off/on, but more on) for about five years and have never felt dependent on them. I forget to take it all the time and never feel like I "need" it or have to have it. Never increased the dose in all that time either. Perhaps because I don't use it consistantly, perhaps I'm just not predisposed to problems with habit forming meds.

50 mg worked for a little while. I'm taking 100 mg and it does almost nothing but any higher I'm really hungover the next day. Amitriptyline works alot better for me.
