I just finished reading the notes I kept while in the hospital and I couldn't believe that I woke up each night at 1:30 or 2:30am regardless of the meds. One night I had a total of l00mg of serequal, and woke-up drunk, and the other nights I had 7mg of chloral hydrate, and xanax. Now that I'm home I'm taking remeron l5mg and small amts of xanax and chloral hydrate and still wake-up for an extra mg of xanax. What is wrong with me? Anyone have the answer? Phillipa

When I was on Remeron (mirtazapine)(30mgs) it only made me drowsy for a week and then my body got used to it. You are only on a tiny dose of Chloral Hydrate which you may have built up a tolerance to anyway, and Xanax (alprazolam) is an anxiolytic (not hypnotic) benzodiazepine with a very short half life and as you said you are only on a small dose. May I suggest you try a hypnotic benzodiazepine like Mogadon (nitrazepam), Restoril (temazepam)(short half life), Versed (Midazolam), and my personal favourate which is sure to keep you out all night Rohypnol (flunitrazepam), all are designed for inducing sleep.

I have never heard of Rhhypnol, or Mogadon. Are they available in the USA? Also does versed come in a pill form? Since the pdoc "thinks" the combo of zoloft and remeron will work, he is reducing the chloral hydrate to 0 over 2 weeks, and the same with the klonopin. They are so afraid of addiction. They don't realize some people just can't sleep, and might not be depressed and anxious if they could sleep all night without waking up! Thanks, Phillipa

rohypnol is also known as the date rape drug, and it's not legal in the US. i had it once prescribed by an italian dr for sleep.
i'm sorry about your sleep troubles and i can relate. a few weeks ago, i was hypomanic and couldn't sleep no matter what i took. here's one cocktail i tried:
100mg of Trazodone
8mg of Trilafon
10mg of Ambien
2mg of Klonopin
200 mg of Propranolol
30mg of Restorilafter all this, i slept only four hours! it sounds like you need drugs that last longer. Trazodone is good for that; sometimes i wake up with a hangover from it, but it does last long. klonopin, too, has a longer half-life than xanax, so it's much better for sleep. restoril has a pretty long half-life. it takes forever to kick in, but it lasts for a good night's sleep.
i don't know of some of the drugs you mentioned, but i hope they work for you. trazodone is an easy med to obtain; it's not dangerous or addictive, so most pdocs will give it out without a fuss.
good luck!

Oh, I forgot to mention I am taking .5mg of klonopin too, but the pdoc is going to discontinue the klonopin and chloral hydrate. He thinks .5 of xanax and l5mg of remeron will let me sleep through the night. I know it won't. Already the gradual reducing of them has caused me to have trembling of nerves or muscles in my fingers, shoulder, and legs, like a jumpy leg. It's not all the time though and I see pdoc tomorrow. I'm going to ask about Lyrica that I saw on an earlier Thread. Fondly, Phillipa

hi phillipa,
i tried 15mg of remeron last night for the first time. i had been hesitant because i heard it makes you really tired and causes a huge appetite. i slept quite a bit longer than usual, and i was hungrier this morning, but i'm not sure if it's the remeron as far as the hunger. one poster said that taking remeron prn shouldn't cause appetite changes. i'd like to believe that and hope it's true as well for seroquel because that was also effective. i sort of believe it cuz when i took zyprexa every night, i gained a ton of weight, but when i took it only occasionally, i only had the hangover but not the need to eat everything in sight. how is your sleep now?

I'lm still taking a long time to fall asleep, and wake only after 4 hrs of sleep at the most. Then, I've been taking lmg of xanax and maybe get another 3 or so. I'm beginning to think my body doesn't absorb any meds because I have no taste, no hunger, or feeling of being full. I even went to a taste and smell center and they said I won't ever taste due to what they think was a virus to the nerves in my nose. Anyone else ever hear of something like this? I tend to think it is my extreme anxiety and depression that my body has just "shut down". Fondly, Phillipa. PS I'm also on remeron l5mg at night, and now l0mg of ambien plus .5xanax.
