Me again.
For the past couple of months I've been taking 60 mg of Cymbalta. It has helped a little, but not coming close to what me and my pdoc hoped for. I've been on several AD's and this is the one I tolerate best, I have had failed trials with several drugs.
The problem is that I have been really prone to headaches. I get mild to moderate stress headaches at the drop of a dime. I also very often get these wierd headaches righ out of the blue. It spreads from my right temple to the est of my head. I'm fine sitting and laying down, but as soon as I get up, start moving around, my head just throbs. OTC painkillers don't help. Any ideas, similar experiences?

Have you ever read up on migrain headaches? I have chronic migrains. At first Imatrex and caffeine helped. But eventually nothing prescription or OTC helped. They didn't hurt so bad as just that they made me dizzy whenever I sat up or tried to walk. Moving agrivated them. They got so frequent that I had to start taking meds prophylactically. I started out on Nortryptalin, now I take Topamax. Depakote also worked for me.
www.webmd.com is a good site for reading about them. www.heathatoz.com might have some good stuff too.
goodluck,
dm

The first week I had one bad pin-pointed headache on the left side, just above my ear. Now I just get regular headaches and they're worst in the early a.m. when I'm waking, when I also feel really dehydrated. I'm just trying to make sure I get plenty of fluids.

Thanks for your responses. Glad to know I'm not alone. Imitrex works quite well, I just wish I could afford it. :(

Tks for share; I have headaches constantly from C2-3,3-4,4-5 extruded discs. Is there any pain relief with Cymbalta? I'm on Eff-XR and it works better for me than anything 20+ yrs; PTSD, BpersonD. Does Cymbalta help w/ anxiety as much as Eff-XR? be well cf

I am experiencing less pain on Cymbalta (I have old neck and shoulder injuries that cause me chronic problems.) I can't say whether Cymbalta is more/less effective as Effexor on anxiety, but my anxiety symptoms have improved on Cymbalta. The thing I've noticed about Cymbalta is I feel kinda "flat." It's great to NOT feel despondent and to not feel like crying all the time, and I do seem to laugh/smile a little more, but I seem to have a hard time motivating myself to do things and finding pleasure in things. (Of course, that was a problem before I started on the Cymbalta, too. Before, I was just on Trileptal, with benzos as needed to help with sleep.) My DX is mild BP2 and mild OCD.

1. Can't say.
2. Yes.
3. Possibly.Sorry I can't be more sure of my answers on 1 and 3.
In 1998, I was on Zoloft for depression. However, in 1999, I got either agitated hypomania (I was DXd as BP2) or anxiety (not DXd at time, but looking back now, I think it may have been.) I was switched from Zoloft to Depakote (mood stabilizer) w/ Effexor (antidepressant). I felt better at first and stayed on these until the end of 2000 or beginning of 2001. But I gained 30 pounds, which was bringing me down, so I switched from Depakote to Trileptal. I still felt kinda depressed/flat, so I switched from Effexor to Wellbutrin. So I was on Wellbutrin and Trileptal when I started a drug holiday around December 2002. I couldn't seem to shake the flat feeling.
Fall of 2003, I had major anxiety (with insomnia and nausea) land on me. Tried Lamictal, which I liked for the short time I was on it, but I got a rash. Now I'm on Trileptal again, but this time with Cymbalta.
That's why my answers on 1 and 3 are vague. I'm not sure if I had anxiety on Effexor, and any apathy/energy issues I had seemed to be after I'd been it more than a year.

I like the idea of less pain a lot. But, Eff-XR definitely helps my anxiety. It can make me tired tho'. I had an injury which is chronic now, in my c-spine. The pain is driving me crazy. I am on generic Percocet x3 a day, but have awful breakthough pain a couple times a month. My doc says there is no breakthrough pain for Percocet. He gave me some lidoderm patches. I can't even go anywhere this weekend w/ this pain. The psych drugs prescribed by pysch, pain by PCP. Oh, the PCP did also give me a scrip for 2.5 Frova for migraines caused by messed up discs/muscles in c-spine; can't read regimen written on scrip. They didn't have the right dosage at my pharm so will have to call around. tks cf
