I think I read that dextromethorphan (OTC cough suppressant) can be used for opiate tolerance....am I correct about this? Or am I mixing things up?

There are some animal studies suggesting that this might work. Likewise for other NMDA antagonists (memantine, ketamine). I don't think there is much in the way of human studies on this subject. You could search on "dextromethorphan tolerance" on PubMed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi) to learn more.
