Paxil CR vs. Paxil

Posted by theo on December 27, 2004, at 16:34:07

I was comparing Paxil CR and Paxil (regular) because I was having headaches and diarrhea from the CR and didn't from regular Paxil. I was shocked to see this:

Paxil CR vs. Paxil
Headache 27% vs. 18%
Nausea 22% vs. 26%
Diarrhea 18% vs. 12%
Decreased Libido 7% vs. 3%
Abnormal Ejaculation 26% vs. 13%
Female Gentital Disorder 10% vs. 2%

I thought the CR was suppose to be better for side effects??? I listed the ones off of the PI sheets that were most common and never realized regular Paxil has better % than does the CR version, simply amazing. I was having a diarrhea attack 5-7 hours after I take the CR, which is why I stumbled on this. I also noticed the CR has Lactose listed as one of the inactive ingredients and regular Paxil doesn't. Nothing like good old false advertising.

We don't have Paxil CR here, I don't think we're missing much!

The information came from the prescribing information for Paxil and Paxil CR from the drug company. Here is a link that has the percentages side by side so you don't have to weed through the drug companies PI.
