Has anyone who experienced major sexual side effects with Effexor XR tried Cymbalta, and had no, or reduced sexual problems?
Effexor XR is the only AD that has ever reduced my drepression. Over the last 20 years, I've tried most of the ADs in every class. However, I tapered off Effexor XR because it totally shut me down sexually.
I'd like to try Cymbalta. Those of you who have tried both: please compare the sexual side effects of the two meds. If several of you tell me that you found Cymbalta significantly better is this area, I will try it.
Thanks

Howdy awatts,
Although I can't speak directly to the effects of effexor, I'm in the early (5 days@ 30 mgs x 2) phase of Cymbalta therapy and currently have no problems as of yet. Of course that could change, but usually when I start a new med. I notice a severe lack of libido almost right away. I guess I'll know more in a few days, but so far so good.
Best of luck,
Roland

In the long run, Cymbalta is only a tad better than Effexor in the sexual department. As long as you take a SSRI/SNRI you're going to have more or less these problems.

On Effexor, I could kinda sorta function sexually, and could even {ahem} ENJOY it most of the time with cyproheptidine on board.
Cymbalta had an initial period when I thought that the anorgasmia was complete, but that was early days while it wasn't addressing my depression. Now I can -- you know, ENJOY it -- pretty much when I am ready to. (Yeah, OK, I'm being a little silly. I can climax, at the point I'm ready to climax.)
Now, I'm also taking Wellbutrin, which might be why the anorgasmia has passed, but whatever it is, I'm not having trouble now. Cymbalta is probably worth a try for you, if you need to be medicated, and if it does cause trouble for you remember that cyproheptidine can help with it.
This is the end of the thread.
