I WAS GIVEN EFFEXOR XR 75 MG FOR FIBRO MYALGIA.
I WAS ON IT FOR 2 MONTHS. THE ITCHING WAS WORSE THAN THE PAIN IT WAS SUPPOSE TO HELP.
NOT ONLY THE ITCHING, I BROKE OUT IN A RASH THAT COVERS MY BODY FROM MY SCALP TO MY KNEES. I DEVELOPED A PAIN IN MY LEG THAT MADE IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO WALK. I CAN'T SLEEP BECAUSE OF THE MUSCLE SPASMS AND THE TWITCHING.
I WENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MN CLINIC OCT 28(THEY ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE MAYO CLINIC) FOR TESTS AND CONSULTATION TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS "ALL IN MY HEAD" OR IN FACT I AM IN PAIN. I HAVEN'T GOT THE RESULTS BACK YET. I TOLD THE DOCTOR AT THE CLINIC THAT I WAS TAKING EFFEXOR XR 75MG. HE DID NOT INDICATE THAT THE DRUG MAY BE CAUSING THE LEG PAIN.
SINCE GOING TO THE CLINIC, I HAVE STOPPED TAKING THE DRUG. I DID NOT STEP DOWN, I JUST QUIT.
THE BRAIN FLASHES HAVE LESSENED, BUT THE DIZZINESS WHEN I MOVE MY EYES HAS INCREASED, AS HAVE THE RASH AND ITCHING.
I HAVE SPENT AT LEAST 2 HOURS READING THE POSTINGS. I AM RELIEVED TO FIND THAT AT LEAST SOME OF MY SYMPTOMS ARE REAL, AND NOT "ALL IN MY HEAD" AS MY LOCAL GP-THE GENIUS THAT PRESCRIBED EFFEXOR-TOLD MY HUSBAND.
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD EFFEXOR PRESCRIBED FOR FIBRA MYALGIA? DID IT WORK FOR YOU?

I am off Effexor now, but it was not prescribed for fibromyalgia. I did have a rash and itching which was severe. I took Benadryl, which helped a lot. In addition, I already had a cream, clobetasoll propionate 0.05%, which was prescribed by a dermatologist when I had previously developed a rash from another medication.

Definately do not let some uppitty doctors (who generally know less than their patients when it comes to the specific disorders we suffer from) EVER tell you it's all in your head.
The muscle pain you described is exactly why I came to this site today. I have been prescribed all the ssri's and effexor. They cause me sustained muscle tension and mild spasms that eventually become quite painful. After paying my idiot doctor $170/hr he might say "huh..you're med sensitive I guess." And 4 years later I'm still depressed might I add.
This is the end of the thread.
