Hello. Looks that the best thing to take for my assumed ADHD and severe social phobia would be d-amphetamine. I am sure that if I get the diagnosis I would be put first at ritalin (which would worsen the SP) and then I might switch to d-amphetamine. But I wonder if a urine test would be taken just to exclude drug use?!
Now it might take some time before I get to see the specialist (I live in norway and things take time here). Today I took nortriptyline and SUPRISINGLY it was not so sedative and caused no urine retention (I took 50mg- enough for ADHD?). Tomorrow I am considering taking it and in addition 10 mg selegiline. I think that might help for this period, I have exams soon.
The thing is that I am afraid of a positive urine test due to the selegiline which gets metabolized to amphetamine and methamphetamine.
I am going to tell my doc about it so I would be covered up :)
I just really need a quick fix, just ot manage the exams.
Thanks,
Ted.

Nortriptyline worked faster for me, and at lower dosages, for ADD than for depression. Also, notably, it worked almost immediately for panic attacks.
I would definitely notify your pdoc about the fact that you're thinking of taking nortriptyline along with 10 mg/selegeline. There is a small risk of serotonin syndrome with the combination.

Hey Ted,
It's great that you're tolerating the nortriptyline well. It's difficult to say whether 50mg/day is a therapeutic dose- different people respond to different doses, maybe you could ask your doc to check your plasma concentration to see if it's within the therapeutic range.
BTW, I know you've considered Nardil and Parnate. Are these drugs definately available in Norway?
All the best...

.......PS. The therapeutic range was established for the treatment of depression. It might not be relevent to your ADHD.

Yes, the MAOIs are available here but the psychiatrst need to send a special request to the FDA here. But now I need to find a psychiatrist who have experience in rxing them. I am writing a letter that I will send on monday to several local psychiatrists and I hope I will find someone willing to rx them. It's stupid since my docor have no problem with that but his request might be rejected since he's "only" specialist in general medicine.
A teacher at school (she's a psychiatrist) recommended the MAOI but unfortunatily she does only work at school, research center and as an emergency psychiatrist.
Wish me luck!
Thanks Ed.

Hello Ted,
Here in England any doctor 'can' prescribe an MAOI but very few actually do. My pdoc has never prescribed one!
Nardil, isocarboxazid and Parnate are all available but Nardil is the only MAOI which is ever actually used.
I'm sure you'll find a suitable pdoc soon,
Good Luck....... keep us all updated...
