Hi BPS.
I tried using Zonegran to treat bipolar depression. I found it mildly energizing at first, which I thought was encouraging. However, I became very fatigued on this drug and I did not respond to it. Please wait for more input before making any decisions. I am extremely treatment-resistant (as are others here), so I make a pretty poor test rat for otherwise effective drugs.
A poster named Sooshi has said some very positive things about Zonegran.

Hi bps,
Yes, I've had great success with Zonegran. It's been the only mood stabilizer that has worked for me. I have little to no side effects from it. It made me a little tired when first starting it, but that wore off. It works really well as an anti-depressant for me as well.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Sooshi,
Quick questions:
1. what dose are u on?
2. does zonegran cause you any cognitive side-effects?? this is one of biggest worries about mood-stabilizers and one of the worst side-effects i've experienced on other mood stabilizers..

Hi bps,
1. what dose are u on?
>>I take 200mg at night.
2. does zonegran cause you any cognitive side-effects?? this is one of biggest worries about mood-stabilizers and one of the worst side-effects i've experienced on other mood stabilizers..
>>I cannot tell that there are any cognitive side effects at all, and that is truly amazing for me, because all the other ms's, especially Topomax, made me very wiggy. I occasionally experience moments where I completely lose my train of thought, but I also just turned 40, and I ain't as young as I used to be...
Let me know if you have any more questions,
Sooshi
