I have been taking Cymbalta 60 mg for about 5 weeks now. It seems to help with depression because I am not all that depressed. Athough I still get depressive, because I am lonely in a seemingly depressive society. Many of the symptoms I have are ADHD which some are the same as depression, thus I will feel amotivated and unfocused without the stimulants, thus the Cymbalta does not appear to do anything for ADHD in my case. However, my mood has been quite stable now for awhile, no more rapid fluctuation between feeling "Myself" to feeling depressive. I believe Cymbalta is supposed to be far more potent that Effexor with Norepephine (can never spell that right =) Thus, I feel Cymbalta is working effectively, nothing euphoric, but stimulants alone cannot treat depression in a continous state so at thats evidence that is it working for me. Athough again, I do still get situationally depressed/frustrated at times because I find society to be depressive when you alone and it also depresses me to know I am such a great bright person with so much to offer, and when seem to never meet anyone who would want to get to know you, I can feel depressive. But I think that is more psychological than clinical. Which I believe you can have psychological depression (having a bad day) and have clinical depression where that is still being treated with the antidepressant. I am going off on a tangent, sorry. But I am willing to continue to take Cymbalta, I believe it is helping, Effexor did nothing. I wish anti depressants would be more potent and you a much "bigger" up lift. And I do not mean an up like someone with mania, but just a extreme but appropiate feeling of wellbeing and love for oneself even if you are so alone.

It sounds like you might have social phobia, which makes it difficult to meet and mix with people. I agree there's a lot of isolation in the world, but the majority of people do find ways to connect. Rather than simply accepting the situation, you should at least bring this up with your doctor. There are meds that can help with this. They're far from perfect, but for some people they work extremely well, though not so well for others. You may be one of the lucky ones who are helped.
