Hello,
Is it true that it's impossible to switch from Xanax (Alprazolam) to Klonopin (Clonazepam) when the day comes and I decide to start getting off it?
I am thinking about that because benzodiazepine withdrawal can be done much easier by switching to a benzo with a long half-life.
I have a good link to reasonable withdrawal schedules for benzodiazepines. There it appears that Xanax can be substituted by diazepam (Valium), and finalizing the taper off by using only diazepam.
So, do you have experience of switching from Xanax to Klonopin smoothly with no problems?!
What about equivalence between the two? How much Xanax is equal in effectiveness to say 1mg Klonopin?
Thanks!
Happy to have found this great place :)

Yes, you can taper xanax with klonopin. You may experience some withdrawal, but it probably won't be very severe at all. Do give you an idea of my past situations, I was tapered off xanax 5mg/day using Ativan in only 5 days! I suffered some pretty high anxiety/irritability and depression doing it like that but I had no choice because I had been hospitalized. Valium would be better IMHO, as it lasts even longer than klonopin.
Hope that gave you a little hope.

i tapered off xanax with klonopin because a doctor insisted on it (a doctor i no longer see). the problem for me with that strategy is that now i'm having to taper off the klonopin and that seems to be taking much longer... i think if i had a choice, i would have preferred tapering with valium - but what i really wanted to do was just taper off the xanax more slowly.
xanax was working for me, this particular doctor was just completely against me taking it. she was quite annoying and didn't last long.
This is the end of the thread.
