Do adult ADD'ers get stressed out easily especially in times where their physical health is challenged e.g. the flu etc.?
Any ADD'er here ever feel like no one takes them or their feelings into consideration. How can one tell where its not just the disease that they have but indeed the cold and inconsiderate nature of some people in general?
And, can an atypical antipsychotic help with slight agitation and depression in an adult with hyperkinetic syndrome. Ritalin works well for all of my symptoms but sometimes the irritability manages to break through especially during the wearing off period. And sometimes i get really dreadful "lows" at the end of the day. Would something like Zyprexa at low dose help with this. I cannot tolerate ANY of the SSRI's . They seem to do ONLY 2 things:
1. Make me numb
2. Extremely irritable. For that matter every drug that seems to work on potentiating or increasing serotonin has this effect on me??
Anyone has any thoughts on this???? Please??
Any Advice?

Hi aazospiro,Zyprexa is anti-dopamine & may block some of the positive effects of Ritalin & other stimulants. I would recommend trying Nortriptyline, it is an older antidepressant of the TCA variety that works by being an norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor & has no effect as an SRI. It also has a long half life & would smooth over the lows when Ritalin is wearing off.
Cheers,
Paul.

I would bet that everyone gets stressed out when they are sick. But it is harder for some of us with ADD. Especially when you have to make up for all the work (at home and at work) when you get better meaning more work.
I take Sam-E with the adderall- xr. Some take St. Johns Wort. I've even heard of some taking a small amount of strattera with it. I've been trying to balance this edginess for a long time and would love the answer to this also.

Hi there,
and thanks for all ur replies. I think the problem was gaba. I took a small dose of valproate 100 mg, and everything just mellowed out. Strange how all these neurotransmitters interact. without the valproate, ritalin still works for focusing but it very much less "calming".

"NORMALLY" DO glucorticoids when used to treat allergic conditions cause one to feel 'high' and then after about 24 - 36 hours of usage, one drops into a terrible low and becomes slightly irritable. Agent in question is hydrocortisone injection for acute urticaria. Prednisolone as well.
Whats up with that???
