at the same time? I'm on .25mg klonopin 3 x a day. I took xanax twice today too. I won't do this on a regular basis, but it's gotten me through this day. Is this dangerous?
Thx,
Colleen

Colleen,
Depending on how much Xanax you're taking, I don't think it's dangerous, but I'm wondering if you're taking enough Klonopin? .25 mg. of Klonopin (according to the benzo equivalency chart) is roughly equal to .5 mg. of Xanax, so were you taking about 1.5 mg. a day of Xanax before you went on Klonopin? If you were taking more Xanax per day, you're probably experiencing some form of withdrawal, and if you increase the Klonopin to where you were in Xanax, you may find that the withdrawal symptoms disappear.
Just a thought.

What has been rough for you if you dont mind my asking? If you are feeling depressed or an urge to self-medicate, I dont think another benzodiazepine is optimal.

Hi, my pdoc switched me from xanax to klonopin and told me not to take the xanax once i started klonopin (which was the next day) and boy did i have withdrawl symptoms..I felt really bad for like 2 wks. I did take ativan and klonopin for like a week, but it didnt help. If you can stick it out until the withdrawl passes you will feel alot better.

I went into detox about 3 months ago for chronic binge drinking, pot (dont laugh, it wasn't impeding me mentally, rather it took up all my money and made me lazy). While in there, the resident psych made me withdraw from xanax 5mg/day and alcohol at the same time! I had been taking xanax for about 2 years prior to this. I'm still ashamed to think about it, but going into that place really was a net positive experience for me.
I was withdrawn from xanax and alcohol starting at 2mg ativan at day one to 0mg at day five! So, yeah, I know a good bit about the hell that xanax withdrawal is. I had a muscular twitch that lasted over a month, and my anxiety. Ouch.

Unlike Xanax, Klonopin is a long lasting drug that is usually taken only once or twice a day.
If you try taking 0.5 mg of Klonopin twice a day, maybe you can get by without Xanax.

I have a prescription for Klonopin, but not for Xanax and I never did. But I did get my hands on some Xanax from a relative because I was going through a family crisis. I have been taking my Klonopin 3 times a day as directed by my pdoc, but there were a couple of incidents during which I felt I needed some immediate relief from my anxiety and didn't want to mess with my Klonopin dosage. I haven't taken any more Xanax and haven't wanted to because things have calmed down a bit in my life. I really just wanted to know if taking both would cause some kind of life-threatening interaction. Sorry I wasn't clear, but thanks again for all your input!
