I suffer from social anxiety and depression generally....and any other minor things that occasionlly come along with these major diagnoses....
I started Risperdal (1mg daily) about a month ago and I THINK i have noticed some reduction in my depression and stabilization of my emotions in general. Just curious about anybody else's experiences with this drug...what they took it FOR, what doses, and how it worked for them. Thanks a lot.

i have been on risperdal going on 3weeks now. I was put on it along with prozac and wellbutrin for major depression. I was previously dx'd with bipolar but the doc in the hospital didn't agree with that dx. i didn't either. so my meds were completaly changed. the bad part is i really don't have a way to know if it's the prozac or risperdal working since i started them both at the same time. i was put on risperdal as a mood stabilizer. it seems to be working. things aren't bothering me as much. it's almost working too much. i can't get mad at anything, i've tried. lol. i am nervous about side affects. i am losing alot of hair when i take a shower and then brush it. i don't know if it's the benzo and lithobid withdrawl i'm going through or the prozac or risperdal. i wake up and within a couple of hours i become very tired and feel physically disconected. it goes away but it drives me nutts. i get so weak and so tired where all i want to do is close my eyes and go to sleep. but when i lay down i can't go to sleep. the other thing that has me concerned is that the risperdal messes with your hormones and i deffinataly don't need that. they are already messed up enough. it can cause lactation. i have noticed that i do get the same sensation i got when i was breastfeeding. it's a wierd relief type of feeling. no milk yet but i'm just waiting for it. i really hope it doesn't happen though cuz it really helps out my nerves. one major problem i have is pmdd and i was on prozac before with no luck. i breezed right through pms this month. that was a biggy. so, anyhow, that's my two cents. i would really like to hear how it has affected you.

Hello.
I've been on risperdal for about 6 months. I was prescribed risperdal for schizophrenic symptoms. For me, it is much better than Seroquel or Zyprexa. Compared to those anti-psychotics risperdal causes no significant deficets in attention and memory. It has helped me to focus and to organize my thoughts.
The only negative experience I have had on risperdal was 'dystonia.' This occured only one when my doctor increased my dosage, and went away when the dosage was decreased. A very terrible night but it is rare and usually only occurs on doses over 6 mgs. a day.
This is the end of the thread.
